Is Reese Witherspoon leaning on Nicole Kidman amid supposed marriage problems with husband Jim Toth? That's the claim in one of this week's tabloids. Gossip Cop looked into the situation and we can set the record straight.
A so-called "source" tells Woman's Day, "During the filming of the second season of 'Big Little Lies,' Nicole witnessed a lot of tearful fights between Reese and her husband Jim. It seemed like the most natural thing in the world to lend her a shoulder to cry on." The alleged insider further contends that Witherspoon's "hard partying" has caused problems in her eight-year marriage.
The suspicious tipster goes on to say that Witherspoon opened up to her co-star about the issues between her and Toth, "and in return, Nicole was very open about her own struggles with Keith Urban, including her trust issues, which apparently almost tore them apart at one stage." Only, spokespeople for both Kidman and Urban have repeatedly assured Gossip Cop that their marriage has never been in trouble, despite such claims cropping up in the past.
The "source" further contends that Kidman advised Witherspoon to "enroll in a marriage bootcamp like she and Keith did." Last year, however, Gossip Cop debunked a bogus story about Kidman and Urban getting a divorce following a failed "counseling retreat" to save their marriage. The actress's rep went on the record to dismiss the idea that she and her husband enrolled in any sort of boot camp.
Still, the seemingly fictitious insider says Witherspoon "was particularly struck by how raw and open [Kidman] was about her own marriage problems." The alleged tipster concludes, "Nicole is urging Reese to try everything she can to work through her marriage woes. She's pointed out that if she and Keith can go through the darkest times and come out stronger, so can she."
Again, Kidman and Urban were never headed for a split, so the actress didn't share her nonexistent "marriage problems" with her co-star. Meanwhile, Gossip Cop already busted Woman's Day last month for falsely claiming Witherspoon's husband was fed up with her alleged "partying." In reality, Witherspoon frequently flaunts her happy marriage on social media. In April, for instance, Witherspoon paid tribute to Toth on Instagram in honor of Husband Appreciation Day.
Despite every aspect of the magazine's story being baseless, Gossip Cop still checked in with a source close to Witherspoon, and we're assured she hasn't been leaning on her co-star amid imaginary marriage problems. It's worth noting, this is coming from the same tabloid that has published multiple articles about Kidman and Witherspoon feuding on the set of "Big Little Lies." That storyline has never been true either, but it goes to show how the outlet can't keep its phony narratives consistent.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
