A tabloid claims Reese Witherspoon is having marriage problems with Jim Toth as a result of stress from work and the demands of parenthood. There is no truth to the story. Gossip Cop can debunk it.
In this week's issue of Star, a so-called "source" is quoted as saying that Witherspoon's marriage is in trouble because she's "so all consumed with the other things in her life, especially her work and her kids, there is nothing left for Jim." The alleged insider goes on to say that Toth has "put up with being second and even third best for a year or so now, and he's told friends he's not sure how much longer it can go on like this," but his wife is "simply so busy she doesn't know how to fix it."
None of this is true. Just one week before the tabloid's story was published, Witherspoon celebrated her husband's birthday on Instagram with a loving photo of the two, which she captioned, "Happy Birthday to my sweet hubby!!! Here's to another fantastic trip around the sun with you! Love you, JT!" That doesn't sound like a marriage on the rocks.
The magazine's article seems to be a combination of two other untrue stories that Gossip Cop recently debunked. For instance, this latest report includes a bit about Witherspoon and Toth getting into a fight at Jennifer Aniston's 50th birthday party because the actress was "so steaming drunk that Jim left without her."
However, Witherspoon posted on Instagram the following day to celebrate "Husband Appreciation Day." Along with a photo of Toth, the actress wrote, "Endlessly appreciative of my adorable, supportive husband. He sure knows how to keep us smiling." Meanwhile, Gossip Cop has already corrected multiple false claims about Witherspoon's busy career putting a strain on her marriage. That's never been the case.
It's worth noting, the outlet's latest article makes the bogus assertion Witherspoon "had a bit of a breakdown" when it was announced that there's unlikely to be a third season of Big Little Lies. The problem with that statement is there's never been a plan for another season of the HBO show. There wasn't even initially a plan for Season 2. The show started out as a limited series and was brought back due to popular demand. Additionally, Witherspoon herself said in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly that the cast and crew would only consider a third season if they think there's a story worth telling.
Meanwhile, Star alleged back in March that Witherspoon and Toth's marriage was falling apart because her ex-husband of 12 years ago, Ryan Phillippe, was having legal issues unrelated to them. Nothing about the premise made sense. This latest report about the couple's marriage being in trouble because the actress is "stressed" simply isn't true.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
