A tabloid cover story suggesting that Reese Witherspoon and her husband Jim Toth are having a "divorce crisis" is completely misleading and false. Gossip Cop can debunk the claim. The report is a bait-and-switch designed to dupe readers and sell magazines.
The latest cover of NW dramatically states, "Divorce Crisis: Reese's Husband Walks Out!" Based on the magazine's cover, one would believe the spouses have split, but the article inside the magazine tells a different story. The report doesn't actually say the couple has broken up, but instead claims they got into a big argument after returning home from a vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, last month.
An alleged insider tells the outlet the two got into a heated exchange over the actress supposedly being more focused on her career than their marriage. Peculiarly, however, the "source" doesn't really know the details of the alleged altercation. In regards to the spat, the questionable tipster says, "Reese would have been totally shocked, especially after they ironed out their differences during their holiday. Reese loves Jim and would have been very quick to apologize for making him feel like he was coming in second to her friends and work." But if this "source" knows so much about the situation, then why are they only speculating about what Witherspoon "would have" done during a fight?
The unreliable tabloid goes on to say that Witherspoon and Toth eventually made up, and her friends believe they'll be able to work out their issues. The supposed insider concludes, "No one thinks Reese and Jim will split. They're absolutely perfect for each other. If anything, this will only make them stronger." In that case, what exactly happened to the so-called "divorce crisis" announced on the tabloid's cover? The content inside the magazine simply doesn't represent what's being advertised on newsstands.
Gossip Cop has reached out to a rep for Witherspoon to find out if she even got into a fight with her husband, but even if there were some sort of argument between the two, the tabloid's cover is deceptive. Irrespective of any disagreement that may or may not have occurred, and there's no proof that it did, the actress isn't in the midst of a "divorce crisis." The magazine itself acknowledges this inside the issue, but first attempts to fool consumers with a bait-and-switch headline on the cover.
Additionally, Witherspoon's own Instagram page proves that her marriage is going strong. On Sunday, the actress paid tribute to her husband for Father's Day, writing, "Happy #FathersDay to the greatest dad, who always makes time to give big bear hugs, supportive pep talks, and a few golf tips! We love you JT!" The couple has also been spotted out and about together a lot in recent weeks.
It's worth noting, this isn't the first time Gossip Cop has had to bust NW for wrongly reporting that Witherspoon and Toth were having marriage problems. In February, the outlet falsely claimed it was "only a matter of time" before the two called it quits. Hopefully it's "only a matter of time" before the magazine publishes an accurate story about the spouses.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
