Raven Symone Continent

(E!)

Raven-Symone is known for being outspoken, but the Internet has now taken an interest in her misspeaking. During a recent E! interview, the actress was speaking about her ancestry when she declared, “I am from every continent in Africa, except for one, and I’m from every continent in Europe, except for one!” Hmm. Watch the video below.

The gaffe came during a conversation about everything from the use of the N-word to the star’s controversial defense of a Univision anchor’s comments comparing Michelle Obama to an ape. At one point, Raven-Symone got to the topic of her Oprah Winfrey interview from last year, during which she declared, “I’m tired of being labeled. I’m an American. I’m not an African-American, I’m an American.” At the time, she said she didn’t know where her roots in Africa were, just that her family roots were in Louisiana.

Ironically, Raven-Symone then stuck her foot in her mouth during the E! interview while specifically trying to give context to her earlier remarks:

I never said I wasn’t black. I said I wasn’t African American, and to me, that’s a difference. Thank you to Ancestry.com, actually for sending me my DNA test!… I am from every continent in Africa, except for one, and I’m from every continent in Europe, except for one! We went back super-far, and for the last 400 years, my family’s been living in Virginia.

Every continent in Virginia? Oh, we kid, we kid! Anyway, the clip has gone viral, with the actress’ name and “Africa and Europe” becoming top Twitter trending topics on Friday. Watch the video below.
