Rachel Maddow The View Video

Rachel Maddow spoke about Donald Trump, his taxes, and the Russia investigation on “The View” on Wednesday. Watch below.

As Gossip Cop reported, Maddow revealed Trump’s tax return, or at least part of it from 2005, on her MSNBC show last week. “The View” co-hosts had a mixed reaction to the findings. Now on the ABC talk show, Maddow sat down to discuss her scoop.

After getting tipped off, Maddow said, “My first thought was, ‘Don’t get pranked. Could this be a forgery?'” She revealed it took “36 hours to get the White House verify it was real.” She said of the leak, “It totally could’ve come from Trump, which is such a bizarre human drama. As far as I’m concerned, the only thing that matters is, is that document real?”

Indeed, Trump branded it “fake news,” while his son Donald Jr. actually cheered the reveal. Mocking their conflicting reactions, Maddow now exclaimed, “It’s either fake or it’s real. You guys have to pick one.” The cable news personality went on to say that showing that one page “proves you can release some of his tax information without the world ending. He’s had weird excuses for not releasing his tax returns.

“The explanation for why he won’t doesn’t make sense,” Maddow said. She also pointed out that the White House has repeatedly said Trump has nothing to hide. “Prove it, show it,” she argued. As for criticism that she dragged out her reveal for too long, Maddow explained the importance of transparency and including context. She insisted, “Like me or not, I did it right, as far as I’m concerned.”

After a commercial break, the topic of conversation turned to Trump’s ties to Russia, on the heels of reports linking former campaign chair Paul Manafort to Putin’s government. “You can watch the White House freaking out about it. They’re like, ‘Paul who?'” Maddow said, mocking the administration’s attempt at downplaying Trump and Manafort’s connection.

“There’s some interesting threads to pull here,” she said. Maddow agreed that a special prosecutor is needed, as opposed to relying on the FBI’s James Comey, who kept the investigation secret for months, despite the election. As for Neil Gorsuch’s Supreme Court hearing, Maddow said Democrats have an understandable “objection” to moving forward with a confirmation while Trump is being investigated.
