A new story about Queen Elizabeth giving Michelle Obama a "brutal beatdown" after she tried to "sneak a spot" on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding guest list is entirely made-up. Gossip Cop can expose this fake news.
According to the repeatedly discredited Just News USA, the former first lady is attempting to score an invite to Prince Harry and Markle's May wedding, and has made a "desperate move" to "sneak a spot" on the exclusive guest list. But, contends the website, when the queen discovered what Michelle sought to do, the British monarch "delivered a brutal beatdown that was definitely deserved."
The website also goes on to assert that former president "practically stalked" Prince Harry on Twitter and sent a congratulatory message "within seconds of the [engagement] news coming out," which "perhaps had an undertone of letting the royals know that he and Michelle were available that day to attend." The blog further maintains that the past president was posting "desperate tweets" to secure a place on the wedding guest list, but the queen "royally snubbed" the Obamas' attempts to watch Markle and Prince Harry walk down the aisle. "Michelle may think she's royalty and even try to act like it, but she's got nothing on the actual Queen of England," ends the outlet's story in dramatic fashion.
The only remotely true aspect of this made-up story is that Barack Obama promptly wished Prince Harry and Markle "a lifetime of joy and happiness" on Twitter. But his congratulatory tweet on the day the engagement was announced was not a way of "letting the royals know that he and Michelle were available that day to attend." In fact, there's no way the former could have known when the wedding would take place because the actual date of the nuptials wasn't announced until two days later.
And as for the contention that the former first lady attempted to "sneak a spot" on the wedding guest list, does Just News USA really expect its readers to believe that when no other legitimate media outlet has reported on it? And how exactly would that have happened? The biggest issue, however, is that the website offers absolutely no details about Queen Elizabeth's so-called "beatdown" of the former first lady?
It should be noted that if Obamas score get invited to the royal wedding it's because they're close friends of the newly engaged prince, not because they angled for an invite on social media. Of course just last month, Barack Obama hung out with Prince Harry at the 2017 Invictus Games, and he's has appeared in public with the redheaded royal on numerous occasions over the years.
Additionally, Prince Harry even enlisted the queen and the Obamas for a funny video to promote the Invictus Games in 2016. Clearly, the Obamas are friendly with the royal family. But more importantly, Queen Elizabeth is not yet weighing in on the guest list, which is likely still being drafted. Gossip Cop can confirm the article is just another piece of fake news making its way around the internet.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
