Was Queen Elizabeth upset with Meghan Markle because of her baby shower in New York which cost $1 million? That’s the claiming coming out of one of this week’s celebrity magazines. Gossip Cop, however, can correct it, and point out some of the story’s errors.

According to In Touch, the queen “isn’t happy” that Markle had a “$1 million baby shower.” After rattling off how the event was held in a $75,000-per-night suite, food was provided by renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and naming such famous attendees as Serena Williams, Gayle King, and Amal Clooney, the magazine alleges it has a “source” who maintains, “Meghan spent $1 million on the lavish six-day trip.”

The outlet then asserts Markle dropped $250,000 for a private jet to shuttle her from the U.K. to New York and back. “That exorbitant number did not go over well with her grandmother-in-law,” adds the tabloid. It’s so-called “source” alleges, “[Queen Elizabeth] nearly had a heart attack when she heard about the cost of the trip.” The publication contends Markle is now is “hot water” with the queen for her “expensive” baby shower and trip.

Significantly, however, the tabloid neglects to mention the Duchess of Sussex did not pay for it. As noted in a Vanity Fair piece about Markle’s baby shower, the $75,000 hotel suite in Manhattan was covered by Williams. Additionally, the first leg of her trip from the U.K. to the U.S. was in a plane owned by a friend from Toronto.” As for the return home, it was widely reported Markle flew back on a private jet paid for by Amal Clooney.

As opposed to the magazine’s estimate, most outlets have pegged the cost of Markle’s baby shower at around $200,000-$400,000. Also, contrary to the tabloid’s insistence that the former actress is in “hot water” with Her Majesty, Markle and Queen Elizabeth have a close and “genuine” relationship. It appears the publication simply wanted to create drama and slap on a seven-figure price tag, in much the same way it falsely alleged Prince Harry had a $1 million bachelor party.

Of course, In Touch doesn’t have a great track record when it comes to stories about Queen Elizabeth and Markle. In November, for instance, Gossip Cop busted the same tabloid when it reported Her Majesty had crowned Prince William and Kate Middleton the new king and queen. And in September, the magazine claimed it had confirmed with the palace that Markle was four months pregnant with twin girls.

That was untrue. The palace never confirmed the former TV star is expecting two girls. In fact, Gossip Cop has been told on several occasions by Kensington Palace that the Duchess is pregnant with just one baby. Additionally, if she were four months pregnant in September, that means Markle would’ve already given birth by now. Much like its past tales, the one about Queen Elizabeth being upset about Markle’s baby shower is also wrong.
