Did Prince William really wear a red wig to a recent palace get-together to mock Prince Harry? That’s the latest claim from a certain less than reliable tabloid. Gossip Cop, however, is told it’s “not true.”

According to the National Enquirer, the Duke of Cambridge recently attended a palace event wearing a “hilarious red circus clown wig,” mocking his red-headed younger brother. In terribly unnatural language, a so-called “source” is quoted as telling the gossip magazine, “Newly engaged Prince Harry burst into chuckles, and palace partyers almost peed their prissy pants!” The supermarket tabloid goes on to assert that Prince William had Prince Harry in “stitches” as he donned the bright red wig.

Accompanied by a doctored image of Prince William wearing a red wig, the outlet’s seemingly made-up “royal spy” supposedly quotes the Duke of Cambridge as saying, “No joke, I was recently mistaken for you, brother! But I had to correct the confused Englishwoman who made the error! ‘I’m not the ginger prince!'” But it’s not just the altered photo (below) that’s fake.

While the original picture was taken in September 2014 when the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry attended a Business Leaders Employment meeting in London, not surprisingly the tabloid doesn’t mention when Prince William allegedly wore the red wig, nor does the often discredited magazine note what the palace event was for or who else was in attendance. And the reason is because the article is a complete fabrication. Gossip Cop fact-checked the bizarre story, and a reputable royal source assures it never happened and the publication’s report is “not true.”

This is hardly the first time Gossip Cop has nailed the Enquirer for publishing a ridiculous article about the Duke of Cambridge. We busted the tabloid in March, for example, when it falsely alleged Prince William and Kate Middleton play sexy board games. There was no truth to that claim, and this latest one about him wearing a red wig to mock Prince Harry is equally phony.
