Prince William and Kate Middleton are NOT being crowned king and queen, despite yet another completely untrue tabloid cover story. Gossip Cop can once again exclusively correct the claim.
Much like sister outlet OK! has repeatedly done, Star published a cover on Wednesday announcing, “William & Kate: King & Queen!” Touting a “palace bombshell,” the front of the edition further declares, “Dying Queen Elizabeth Steps Down!” Inside the issue, it’s blared, “William & Kate Crowned King & Queen.”
According to the story, due to Queen Elizabeth’s “frail health,” she has “made the shocking decision to step down from the throne — and instead of passing the crown to her son and rightful heir, Prince Charles, she’s handing over the reign to William and Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and the historic coronation will happen this summer!”
“It’s a dramatic break from tradition for the queen to do this, and no one was more surprised than William and Kate, “a so-called “palace insider” is quoting as saying. “The queen informed them right after they came back from spending the holidays with Kate’s family… They both started crying tears of joy.”
Another alleged reason for the supposed transition of power is that Queen Elizabeth “wants to be alive to see William’s coronation.” And the magazine notes plans are “under way,” with its source vowing, “This promises to be the event of the century.” But we’ve heard this all before.
OK! has run versions of this Star story countless times. In fact, the design of this cover is almost a replica of past ones from its sister publication, such as last October’s king and queen coronation cover story. But this latest installment is no more accurate than previous ones. A Kensington Palace source laughed off the coronation claims as “untrue” when contacted by Gossip Cop.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
