Does Prince Harry really fear Meghan Markle will be a “runaway bride”? That’s what one of the tabloids wants readers to believe. But Gossip Cop can bust the absurd story.
The latest issue of Woman’s Day Australia features the dramatic headline, “Meghan’s Wedding Meltdown: Forced Into Hiding!” According to the article, Markle’s “world is crumbling as explosive tell-alls and bitter people from her past threaten to ruin her dream day.” While Markle should be “counting down excitedly to her nuptials,” the gossip magazine claims she’s instead “feeling lonely and overwhelmed.” Amid this alleged “constant backlash and drama,” the outlet contends “there are fears” Markle will be a “runaway bride” and that “Harry fears for his bride.”
The publication claims Markle has been “feeling increasingly jittery” and is “questioning whether she can cope with the constant scrutiny that comes with her new life as a royal.” A so-called “palace insider” cited in the story points out that Markle and Prince Harry didn’t join the rest of the royal family at church for Easter, arguing, “It’s a sure sign Meghan needed some time out.” The tabloid also references a report about Markle secretly traveling to Los Angeles for time with her mom recently. The lack of Easter appearance and the reported trip to L.A. are seemingly used to substantiate the magazine’s cover declaration, “Meghan flees the palace!”
But Markle hasn’t fled the palace nor is she in “hiding.” On Friday, just a few days before this tale was published, Markle and Prince Harry attended the Invictus trials for the UK team in England. Clearly, she has no problem being in public right now. In fact, it was subsequently revealed that Markle and Prince Harry will be going to Australia this fall for the Invictus Games, an indisputable sign that they are planning for their future together. Yet according to the magazine’s story, Prince Harry is “worried Meghan will struggle with royal life” and is “in a panic of his own as he worries about his bride.”
“He’s fiercely protective of Meghan and just wants the haters to back off and stop trying to ruin her reputation and their wedding day,” an alleged “source” is quoted as saying. But Gossip Cop is told by a royal staffer, who wasn’t authorized to comment on the record, that while Prince Harry wants his fiancee to be treated well and feel well, as any man would, these purported concerns about Markle being in a “hiding” and ending up a “runaway bride” are “rubbish.”
In fact, wedding plans are proceeding as normal. On Monday, Kensington Palace announced on Twitter that the couple has chosen charities to which people can contribute, in lieu of sending wedding gifts. Any alleged problems for the soon-to-be spouses, such as the ones claimed here, exist solely in the gossip media, not reality.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
