Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are house hunting in America, according to a new report. But is it true? Gossip Cop looked into the claim.
"Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Are Coming To America & It's Not Just To Visit," OK! announces on its website. The tabloid alleges the couple is "looking to buy a place in the U.S.A!" A so-called "source" claims Harry and Markle have been "eyeing properties in Beverly Hills, Bel-Air and the Hollywood Hills, but also estates in Orange County."
"They need a base near her mom and family that's secure and private," contends the gossip magazine's supposed snitch, who goes on to assert, "They're still not sure if they'll keep her pad in Vancouver. It would only be for sentimental reasons as that's where their romance really started."
Vancouver? Markle actually lives in Toronto, which is on the opposite side of the country. It takes more than four hours by plane to get from one city to the other. How knowledgeable can this "source" really be if he or she doesn't know where Markle's home base is located?
Gossip Cop became further suspicious of this tale when the outlet's alleged tipster maintained Prince Harry "loves the idea of a base in California." The publication's "source" is quoted as saying, "He knows the have [sic] to officially live in the Palace, but the chance to get away and soak up some rays in Cali is exactly what he needs."
Those claims reminded us of a cover story OK! published nearly a year ago, in which the tabloid falsely said Prince Harry was "moving to America," and wanted to rent a place in Malibu. Of course, that never happened, just like Gossip Cop said it wouldn't.
And this is also the same magazine that tried to dupe readers with fake news just weeks ago by wrongly asserting the palace had confirmed a royal wedding for Prince Harry and Markle. Notably, nothing about a wedding is mentioned in this new piece. Rather, the outlet contends "a royal engagement announcement is expected any day now."
But could the dubious publication be on the mark with its "#RoyalsInThe90210" story? Here's what Gossip Cop knows: Markle is committed to living in Toronto through the end of 2017. When her TV show "Suits" ends, or if she should decide to depart the series, it's conceivable she'll relocate to California, since she is originally from Los Angeles. It's also not out of the realm of possibility that, if Markle buys a new home in the area, Prince Harry will spend time there.
Similarly, if Markle ends up living in London, she and Prince Harry may still want to have a place in the States. But house hunting in America right now? Gossip Cop is told that's "very premature." A rep for Markle also tells us there's no truth to the claim.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
