Prince Harry did not ask Meghan Markle to shut down her lifestyle site, despite a report. Gossip Cop can set the record straight once again.

As Gossip Cop reported, it was falsely alleged earlier this month that Prince Harry was to blame for Markle closing her blog, The Tig. In actuality, the actress chose to stop running the website because she was increasingly short on time and could no longer devote the effort required to maintain it while balancing her acting career with her charity endeavors. Though rumors about Prince Harry's involvement, and even that Queen Elizabeth forced Markle to shut down the site, were debunked weeks ago, Star either missed the memo or has willfully chosen to spread misinformation in lieu of the truth.

In a story about the couple's "tangled web," the tabloid alleges Markle quit blogging "in anticipation of a proposal from Prince Harry." A so-called "source" claims to the magazine, "Harry explained that the blog could put her in direct conflict with royal family's protocol," because members of the monarchy are "strictly forbidden" from making endorsements and offering opinions related to lifestyle products and services. Adds the outlet's alleged tipster, "Harry felt horrible asking Meghan to abandon the site."

But it's Star that should feel horrible for continually spinning a web of lies for readers. Back in December, Gossip Cop busted the publication for falsely claiming Markle was pregnant with Prince Harry's baby. We corrected the article at the time, rightly reporting that the "Suits" star was not expecting. Notably, that untrue allegation isn't mentioned anywhere in this new piece, as if the tabloid expects readers to overlook such glaring mistakes.

But this goes right to the heart of the magazine's credibility, which dwindles each time it prints more erroneous claims. And that brings us back to this article about Prince Harry supposedly asking Markle to kill The Tig. The outlet that wrongly said months ago that she was pregnant cannot be trusted to know the reason she axed her blog. Gossip Cop, in contrast, has proven to be a reliable source of information when it comes to Markle (and countless other stars). So now we reiterate what our impeccable insiders previously said: Markle opted to shut down the website because it was too time consuming for her current place in life. Apparently, fact-checking is just too time consuming for Star.

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
