President Obama Advice Kanye West

President Obama gave Kanye West presidential advice at a Saturday fundraiser, during which the rapper was set to perform. Watch below.

The Democratic National Committee hosted the event in San Francisco, with more than 1,000 people paying between $250 and a whopping $10,000 to attend. West wasn’t the only attraction, though. NBA champions the Golden State Warriors were also in attendance with the trophy they won earlier this year.

But President Obama specifically addressed West and the music star’s supposed plans for a presidential bid during his prepared remarks. As Gossip Cop has reported, West announced during his MTV Video Music Awards speech in August that he’ll run for president in 2020. He said more recently that he has a lot of “research” to do in the next five years.

During the fundraiser, however, Obama humorously offered some advice. “A little bit later you’re going to hear from a guy who I hear has been talking about launching a potential political career,” began the president, before making a reference to current personnel turmoil in Washington, D.C. “You may have heard about this. Kanye is thinking about running for Speaker of the House.”

“But in case Kanye is serious about this whole POTUS thing, or as he calls it ‘Peezy,'” Obama continued before advising, “First off all, you gotta spend a lot of time dealing with strange characters who behave as if they are on a reality TV show.” That, of course, was a nod to “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” and there was also an allusion to one of West’s albums.

“Saying that you have a beautiful, dark, twisted, fantasy, that’s what’s known as off-message in politics,” stated the president. He then amusingly asked, “Do you really think this country is going to elect a black guy from the South Side of Chicago with a funny name to be president of the United States?” Which, of course, is exactly what voters did twice.

As Gossip Cop has reported, Obama and West haven’t always gotten along over the years, and even had a little spat earlier this year about whether or not the president has ever called him at home (the rapper says he has). But West isn’t the only big celebrity in Obama’s corner Saturday. As Gossip Cop noted earlier this week, a nighttime fundraiser in Pacific Palisades will feature a performance from Jamie Foxx.
