Pink Super Bowl National Anthem

Pink sang the National Anthem at Super Bowl LII on Sunday. Watch the 2018 NFL Championship performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” in the video below!

It was announced in January that Pink, a massive Philadelphia Eagles fan, would be performing the National Anthem at this year’s Super Bowl, taking the field just before the New England Patriots face the Eagles at the U.S Bank Stadium in Minnesota. An ecstatic Pink wrote on Twitter, “Ummm. I’m singing the national anthem and the EAGLES ARE PLAYING?!?!?! IS THIS FOR REAL?!?!?! THATS WHASSUP!!!!!!!!”

Unfortunately, her excitement dimmed one day before the performance. “Trying to practice the flu away,” Pink wrote on Instagram, sharing, “I’ve been waiting to sing this song since 1991 when I saw my idol, Whitney Houston, own this song. And now, my chance has finally come. And it just so happens that this chance comes when I have two small Petri dish kids who literally cough INTO MY MOUTH and rub their snot on my cheek. You can’t write this stuff I swear!”

She went on, “And here we are. I’ve arrived at another one of my dreams which is slowly becoming a sort of nightmare. I will tell you, this is one of the biggest honors of my life, singing this song in front of my family, my military family, my dad and brother and step mama and family and the world. And the EAGLES!?!?!”

The performer vowed, “I promise I will do my best, as I always do. As far as the gremlins that got me into this mess, you can cough at me for the rest of your lives. If it’s a contest, babies, you win.” Pink added the hashtags, “#spreadthelove #spreadthegerms #pleasegivememyvoiceback #ificansingimgonnakillit.”

No doubt Twitter will be debating over the next few days whether she did, in fact, “kill it.” That seemed to be the consensus after Pink performed at the Grammys a week ago, with the star impressing the crowd by singing “Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken,” accompanied by a sign language interpreter. During the ceremony, she had the chance to take home the award for Best Pop Solo Performance (“What About Us”), but lost out to Ed Sheeran.

As for the rest of this year, Pink is set to hit the road in March on her Beautiful Trauma World Tour, stopping at a number of major cities across the U.S. and Canada, including New York, Chicago, Boston, Washington D.C., Orlando and Toronto. Today, though, she goes down in history. A slew of famous artists are also in the record books for singing the “Star-Spangled Banner” at the Super Bowl, including Christina Aguilera (2011), Kelly Clarkson (2012), Alicia Keys (2013), Renee Flemming (2014), Idina Menzel (2015), Lady Gaga (2016) and Luke Bryan (2017).
