Pink and Lady Gaga never wrote a Madonna diss song, despite a report from exactly one year ago today that claimed they were working on one. At the time, Gossip Cop noted it was not true. Now, 12 months later it's clear the two singers did not team up to slam Madonna.

On November 13, 2017, OK! maintained Pink was joining Lady Gaga in her "feud" with Madonna. To back up its premise, the tabloid quoted an anonymous "source" who asserted Pink was in Lady Gaga's corner and collaborating with her on a song that would paint Madonna as a "fraud" and "superficial." The supposed insider explained Pink didn't like how Madonna was "trashing" Lady Gaga and treating her "rotten."

And while it's said revenge is a dish best served cold, the magazine's contentions appeared to come out of nowhere last year. The issues that Madonna had with Lady Gaga dated back to 2012. Following the release of Lady Gaga's Born This Way, Madonna called her "reductive" on "20/20" because of the similarities between that song and her 1989 song Express Yourself.

Even though it's true that over the years Madonna would occasionally jab Lady Gaga with shots, including how she was "glad that I helped Gaga write [Born This Way]," it appeared the two women had long ago laid down their arms some time ago. In 2015, Madonna even called Lady Gaga "very talented" as a songwriter and singer in a Rolling Stone interview. Meanwhile, in a 2016 interview with Zane Lowe for Beat 1 Radio, the A Star Is Born actress called Madonna the "biggest pop star of all time."

Regardless, as Gossip Cop noted 365 days ago, it made no sense that the tabloid would allege the two singer were working together on a Madonna revenge song. It's possible the magazine cooked up the story after Pink came to Lady Gaga's defense on Instagram following her halftime show at the Super Bowl in 2017. As widely reported, after doing high-wire acrobatic moves at the NFL Championship game, Lady Gaga was accused of ripping off Pink, who then asked fans to "celebrate" the Super Bowl performer for having the "guts to jump off a roof" and pointed out many others have used wires to fly across stages.

But even that doesn't explain why Lady Gaga and Pink would write an anti-Madonna anthem" together. In any event, both a source close to Pink and Lady Gaga's rep assured Gossip Cop a year ago that talk of the two musicians teaming up to do a Madonna diss song was "not true." And obviously they didn't, nor will they.

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
