Oscars Winners 2016

The 2016 Oscars will honor the best in movies from the past year, and Gossip Cop has all the winners!

Nominees for the 88th annual Academy Awards were revealed in January. The Revenant scored the most nods with nominations in 12 categories. The film will compete for the night’s biggest prize, Best Picture, along with The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, Brooklyn, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, Room, and Spotlight.

The Best Actor nominees are Bryan Cranston (Trumbo), Matt Damon (The Martian), Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant), Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs), and reigning winner Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl). The Best Actress contenders are Cate Blanchett (Carol), Brie Larson (Room), Jennifer Lawrence (Joy), Charlotte Rampling (45 Years), and Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn). In contention for Supporting Actor and Actress are Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Mark Ruffalo, Mark Rylance, Sylvester Stallone, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Rooney Mara, Rachel McAdams, Alicia Vikander, and Kate Winslet.

Of course, the Oscars aren’t just about acting. With 24 categories, attention will also be paid to editing, cinematography, directing, visual affects, screenwriting, production design and more. Achievements in short films, animated movies, foreign features, and documentaries will also be recognized.

Winners are chosen by the various branches of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Gossip Cop will be updating the winners list live as each category is announced. The ceremony, hosted by Chris Rock, is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Stay tuned!
