The 2017 Oscars In Memoriam featured a performance from Sara Bareilles at Sunday’s Academy Awards. Watch below.

It was announced on Thursday, just days before the ceremony, that Bareilles would perform during the tribute to stars we’ve lost over the last year. The bittersweet honor follows the recent news that the singer will be taking over the lead role in Waitress on Broadway, for which she composed the music. Now, after an introduction from Jennifer Aniston, Bareilles, a Tony and Grammy nominee, sang “Both Sides Now.”

As she performed, a montage highlighted past Oscar winners and nominees, as well as notable actors and Hollywood figures, who died since last year’s Academy Awards. Among those included were Mary Tyler Moore, Carrie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds, John Hurt, Prince, Gene Wilder, and Anton Yelchin. Also featured were George Kennedy, Patty Duke, Garry Marshall and Emmanuelle Riva.

That’s in addition to Kenny Baker, Pat Conroy, Nancy Reagan, Ken Howard, Curtis Hanson, Marni Nixon, Zsa Zsa Gabor, and Om Puri, among others. Aniston also made a pre-montage mention of Bill Paxton, who just died on Saturday. His passing was announced hours before tonight’s Oscars ceremony.

As Gossip Cop reported, last year’s Oscars In Memoriam included a performance by Dave Grohl, who sang “Blackbird.” During the montage, the late Abe Vigoda was infamously snubbed, leading his daughter to slam the Academy. Inevitably, someone fairly significant is left out every year. Still, it is touching moment overall. See video of the 2017 In Memoriam below.
