Oscars Best Picture 2017

Warren Beatty mistakenly announced La La Land as the Academy Awards winner for Best Picture at the 2017 Oscars, instead of the rightful winner, Moonlight. Watch below.

Beatty was assigned to present the final, and biggest award, with Faye Dunaway. But when he opened the envelope, he dramatically paused. His Bonnie and Clyde co-star thought he was just jokingly building suspense, and called him “impossible.” Then Dunaway announced La La Land won.

But as the musical’s producers gave their acceptance speech with the cast and crew behind them, a stage director came out and started looking for the envelope. It was then announced that La La Land had not, in fact won, and Moonlight actually did. Host Jimmy Kimmel awkwardly said, “This is very unfortunate what happened. Personally, I blame Steve Harvey for this. I want to see [La La Land] get an Oscar anyway. Why can’t we just give out a whole bunch of them?”

“Warren, what did you do?!” he yelled. Beatty then revealed, “I want to tell you what happened: I opened the envelope and it said Emma Stone, La La Land. That’s why I took such a long look at Faye and at you. I wasn’t trying to be funny.” He then proclaimed, “This is Moonlight, the best picture.” As Gossip Cop reported, Stone won Best Actress minutes earlier. It seems that results card was wrongly placed into the Best Picture envelope.

Amid much confusion, Moonlight director Barry Jenkins came on stage and said, “Even in my dreams, this could not be true. But to hell with dreams, I’m done with it, because this is true. Oh my goodness.” Kimmel then wrapped up the ceremony by admitting, “Well, I don’t know what happened. I blame myself for this.”

“Let’s remember, it’s just an awards show,” Kimmel went on. “I mean, we hate to see people disappointed, but the good news is we got to see some extra speeches. We have some great movies. I knew I would screw this show up. I really did… I promise I’ll never come back.” Check out the full video below.
