Oprah never demanded Stedman Graham propose to her or they’d split, despite a report from a year ago. On January 8, 2017 Gossip Cop busted the National Enquirer for falsely claiming Oprah was insisting Graham marry her. Now a year later, the couple is still happily unwed and the story remains untrue.
In the article in question, the supermarket tabloid alleged Oprah told her longtime partner to “either to propose or to hit the road.” A purported “pal” was quoted as claiming, “[Oprah is] walking off into the sunset, and it’s up to Stedman if he wants to be by her side as her husband.” The gossip magazine’s supposed tipster contended, “Oprah wants a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer from him. If it’s ‘no,’ she’ll walk.”
The outlet also claimed to have “another source,” who supposedly asserted, “To the people close to her, it’s not a surprise that she finally wants to get married after 30 years.” This alleged insider maintained, “She’s always been a workaholic, and put her personal life second to work, but now she wants to settle down in a quiet life with Stedman.” Actually, Oprah has always balanced her personal and professional lives.
And Oprah never gave Graham any kind of marriage ultimatum. A rep for the media mogul exclusively told Gossip Cop when we busted the outlet’s story 12 months ago that the claims were “not true.” Time has proven that was correct. Oprah has neither married Graham nor broken up with him. Rather, their relationship has continued as it has for decades with no significant change.
The timing of this look-back actually couldn’t be better. On Sunday, Oprah was at the Golden Globes to accept the Cecil B. DeMille Award, and she was accompanied by Graham (see photo above). She even thanked him in her speech, calling him “my rock.” Regardless of their marital status, his commitment to her hasn’t wavered, nor has hers to him, despite what the National Enquirer wanted readers to believe. What’s more is that the pair could be preparing to take their romance into the political world.
At the awards show, Graham was asked by the Los Angeles Times about Oprah possibly running for president. “It’s up to the people. She would absolutely do it,” he said. While it remains to be seen whether the icon really will declare her candidacy, it seems clear she has Graham’s vote, whether or not they’re married.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
