Oprah did not announce “yes, I’m running” for president, despite a new tabloid cover story. The claims are 100 percent not true. Gossip Cop can bust the report.

The new cover of Life & Style is touting “Oprah 2020” and “Her Plan To Win The Presidency.” And while the front of the issue blares, “Yes, I’m Running,” the media mogul never spoke to the gossip magazine about the upcoming election. This was deceptively designed to mislead readers into thinking there’s some kind of “official” announcement. There’s not, despite the outlet claiming “it’s official” Oprah is “running.”

“Oprah is running for president,” a so-called “insider” is quoted as saying, claiming, “All her friends have been encouraging her to announce it.” The publication maintains it “exclusively learned that O is assembling a top-notch team of political experts to help her take over the White House from President Donald Trump in three years.” It’s further alleged she’s “willing to spend $1 billion of her own money to make sure her campaign is a winning one.”

A purported “friend” supposedly tells the tabloid, “When Oprah fights, she fights to win. She’s got the financial means and backing from major donors to help defeat her opponents. She wouldn’t run for president if she didn’t think she could be victorious.” The alleged pal even speculates that Tom Hanks “might run with her” as vice president “if he thought they could win,” though it’s more likely “she’d probably pick a seasoned politician.”

The “friend” goes on to contend to the magazine that Oprah’s “platform is unity,” and “if she were to announce it today, her campaign slogan would be ‘Bring America Back Together.'” The outlet also alleges she has a “secret weapon to help her make it to the White House,” her longtime partner Stedman Graham. “He’s already agreed to run her campaign,” claims the “friend,” adding, “He has the means, the know-how and the political connections.”

But none of these assertions are legitimate. Life & Style is simply trying to piggyback off of all the speculation that was sparked earlier this month after Oprah’s speech at the Golden Globes. Following her rousing statements as she accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award, some remarked that it seemed like a campaign speech and suggested she may throw her hat into the ring for 2020. Two days later, however, best friend Gayle King said Oprah was not “actively considering” running for president, despite being “intrigued by the idea.”

King also denied that Oprah wrote her speech as a “launching pad.” But while it’s conceivable the icon could form an exploratory committee down the road to seriously examine a run for president, any real news about what Oprah does or doesn’t decide to do won’t be broken by a tabloid. That said, Oprah’s rep, who is a longtime friend of Gossip Cop, told us the talk show host has absolutely no plans to run for president, adding the publication’s claims are all manufactured.
