It seems One Direction’s hiatus has officially begun.

As Gossip Cop reported, One Direction performed on Sunday’s “X Factor UK” finale, where they were honored with a star-studded tribute. On Monday morning, Liam Payne and Niall Horan made clear their schedules were now wide open. It wasn’t certain when the planned 18-month break would begin, but based on the tweets, it seems now underway.

Payne first joked, “Off to the job centre … Hope it all works out.” That tweet was actually a special reference to Horan, who tweeted in 2010, “applied for xfactor, hope it all [works] out.” Five years later, it worked out and then some.

Payne went on to retweet a fan who loved the inside joke. He then more seriously wrote, “Just kidding … Honestly thank you so much to everyone look at all the amazing things we have done together like wtf man.” The singer continued, “I’m just walking round sainsburys doing my god shopping and life couldn’t be better. thank you all.”

For his part, Horan posted, “5 of the best years of our lives so far.. Thank you all so much for your incredible support. I hope you guys realize what you’ve done for us.” He added, “Can’t thank you enough to be honest … Don’t worry, we’ll be back .. Looking forward to chilling for a while now.”

Louis Tomlinson shared his own appreciation after the “X Factor” appearance. “Well that was an emotional night!! Never can we thank you enough for how special you have made the last five years for us,” he tweeted. “I hope you realize what we have all done together really is incredible. You guys have made us what we are today! We’ll be back soon enough!”

And Harry Styles said, “To you, you have changed our lives and no words will ever be good enough to thank you for what we have done together. You are the greatest team mates we have ever known. Thank you.” The second part was a reference to the song “History,” which the band has said is about their relationship with fans.

Payne and Horan’s tweets on Monday came around the same time it was announced that “History” will be the third single from Made In The A.M., replacing “Infinity.” That means fans can likely still look forward to a new music video. And Directioners will also get to watch the group’s pre-taped “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest” performances on December 31.
