Does O.J. Simpson actually want to join the cast of “Dancing with the Stars”? That’s the absurd claim in one of this week’s new tabloids, which says the ex-con is looking to revamp his image on the family-friendly competition show. Gossip Cop looked into the situation and we can exclusively set the record straight.

The ex-NFL player, who was released on parole earlier this month after serving nine years in a Nevada prison for armed robbery, is reportedly having financial issues. The National Enquirer now claims his team has hatched a scheme to score him a big payday and get him back in the public’s good graces. “The plan is to find a new place to reintroduce O.J. to a new audience, and hopefully remind his old fans why they once loved him,” a so-called “source” tells the magazine.

The outlet’s dubious insider adds, “They do not want a big sit-down interview, but rather somewhere he doesn’t need to do a lot of talking or explaining. A place where he can be funny and charming. That place is ‘Dancing with the Stars.'” Gossip Cop, however, has learned from ABC source this is completely untrue, not to mention unrealistic. In fact, the ex-NFL stars suffers from arthritis, bad knees and other physical ailments, so the possibility of him having the stamina to perform on the grueling dance series is unlikely.

In an interview last year, Simpson’s former business manager revealed that his client underwent two knee replacement surgeries before going to prison. It was actually his knees that led Simpson to retire in 1979, he told the New York Times back then. And a year before the former football player was released, the Los Angeles Times did a piece about Simpson’s life behind bars, in which it noted he “contends with age and ailments, including bad knees.”

It’s also worth noting, Jimmy Kimmel mocked the possibility of such an absurd scenario when Simpson was granted parole earlier this year. During his monologue, the late night host joked that Simpson “will be picked up at the Lovelock Correctional Facility via helicopter and flown directly to the set of ‘Dancing With The Stars'” upon his release.

This also isn’t the first time the Enquirer has falsely claimed the ex-con’s post-prison plans involved reality TV. Gossip Cop busted the tabloid earlier this year when it wrongly reported Simpson would be joining “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” once he’s paroled. This latest article is equally baseless.
