HollywoodLife regularly peddles fake news about top celebrities, and now the webloid is dragging in the former president and first lady. In this made-up concoction, it’s asserted the Obamas would be “honored” to attend Prince Harry‘s wedding. While that’s an obvious conclusion, it’s a disingenuous one. Gossip Cop can bust this story.
Since it was announced last month that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are engaged, there’s been endless speculation about the guest list for their wedding, which will take place next May. Though the Obamas weren’t invited to Prince William’s nuptials with Kate Middleton, many have wondered if they’ll attend Prince Harry’s big day since the royal heir and the former commander-in-chief are pals. Some have also speculated how an invitation or lack thereof would or won’t affect whether current president Donald Trump is invited.
On Wednesday, Prince Harry seemed to sidestep the guest list issue and whether Obama will make the cut by saying, “We haven’t put the invites or the guest list together yet, so who knows whether he’s going to be invited or not. I wouldn’t want to ruin that surprise.” Now hours after those comments made headlines worldwide, HollywoodLies, as it’s known, is trying to capitalize on interest in the subject by purporting to have “exclusive details” on the topic.
A so-called “source” is quoted as saying about the former first couple, “If they are officially invited to the royal wedding they would be honored to attend. And they wouldn’t feel slighted if they weren’t invited because they just want what is best for Meghan and Harry and to make sure that have a wonderful day, because it should be all about Meghan and Harry and not if they go or not.” These assertions are a no-brainer. The Obamas are widely viewed as gracious people. Of course they would be “honored” if they were invited and of course they wouldn’t want attention taken away from the people who are actually getting married.
No “source” close to the Obamas actually told HollywoodLies this. No real person legitimately connected to the former president and first lady would talk to a gossip blog, especially one that inappropriately and immaturely writes in the same article, “Trump is such a total triggered crybaby when it comes to anything about the Obamas.” There is both a protocol for the Obamas’ dealings with the media as well as a standard to uphold. This webloid is not going to make the cut. And it’s not the first time the site has shamefully tried.
In February, the blog made-up nonsense about Obama calling Beyonce and Jay-Z to congratulate them on expecting twins. Then in April, the outlet wanted people to believe a “source” actually told them the Obamas were “worried” about daughter Malia living in New York. Both of those were fake news stories, too, that were designed to piggyback off subjects currently making headlines. HollywoodLies didn’t have authentic insight; they had writers who made guesses and penned related fiction. It’s almost like “fake it til you make it.” But Gossip Cop will never stand for faux journalism.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
