*NSYNC is denying there are any concrete plans for a reunion, despite comments made by Lance Bass. Gossip Cop can help set the record straight.

On Thursday, “Entertainment Tonight” published a video interview with Bass, in which he was asked if the boy band has anything “special” in the works. “I don’t know if I can announce it,” he said, before revealing, “We are coming out with a really cool vinyl edition of our Christmas album, because it’s coming up on the 20 years of that album.”

Bass went on to further claim, “And then we’re going to be getting our star on the Walk of Fame this year at some point.” The singer confirmed the honor is for “all five” of them, and said, “We’ll all be there. We just need to decide on a date.” He added, “Hopefully maybe around Christmas time this coming year.”

The remarks led to a flurry of news stories announcing a reunion for the iconic group. Entertainment Weekly, Billboard, Us Weekly, HollywoodLife, the New York Post, and a slew of other outlets all reported that *NSYNC has plans to reunite this year. As it turns out, though, that’s not actually the case. Or at least not yet.

On Friday, a statement was posted on the official *NSYNC Twitter account. “We always appreciate the love and excitement from our fans unfortunately Lance’s comments to the press were taken out of context,” it says. “When there is real news from *NSYNC you will hear it from all of us.”

Joey Fatone posted essentially the same thing on his own page, writing, “We love the excitement from our fans. Lances comments to press were taken out of context, when there is real news u will hear from all of us.” The message was retweeted by the main account. Bass himself has not addressed the confusion. *NSYNC is pictured above at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.
