Could Nicole Kidman be replacing Kim Cattrall in Sex and the City 3? That’s the claim in one of this week’s new tabloids, which says producers want the Oscar-winning actress to take over the role of Samantha Jones. Gossip Cop looked into the situation and we can exclusively set the record straight.
Cattrall, who’s been adamant about not wanting to return for a third film in the franchise, recently sparked controversy when she insisted she’s “never been friends” with her fellow cast mates. According to Star, however, producers are now determined to make a third installment without the actress’s involvement. A so-called “industry insider” tells the magazine, “Kim doesn’t want to play Samantha anymore? Hey, roles get recast all the time. They were floating a few names around and unanimously agreed that Nicole would be ideal.”
The outlet’s questionable source adds, “She loves Sarah [Jessica Parker] so she’d definitely fit in with the cast. Nothing has been signed yet, but producers have every intention of getting Nicole, and if her schedule allows it, she would say yes in a New York minute!” But Gossip Cop checked in Parker’s rep, who exclusively assures us there’s no truth to the tabloid’s tale. In fact, Parker herself confirmed in a recent interview with “Extra” that a third Sex and the City movie isn’t happening. “It’s over… We’re not doing it,” she said. Regardless, Kidman hasn’t been tapped to join a nonexistent project.
It should be noted, Gossip Cop has had to correct countless bogus stories surrounding a possible third film in the franchise. We recently busted Star’s sister publication, the National Enquirer, for falsely claiming Parker wants to kill off Cattrall’s character in order to move ahead with Sex and the City 3. Shortly before that nonsense, we corrected Star’s other sister outlet, RadarOnline, for wrongly reporting the Sex and the City cast signed on for a third movie. This latest article regarding the unmade sequel is similarly phony.
