Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe, who’ve been close friends more than three decades, are often at the center of bogus tabloid stories. Gossip Cop has debunked several false reports about the stars. In honor of Friday’s release of their new movie Boy Erased, here are a few wrong rumors about the longtime pals.

Last month, Gossip Cop busted Woman’s Day Australia for falsely claiming that Keith Urban was upset about Crowe gushing about his wife in interviews. The story was concocted because the actor plays Kidman’s husband in Boy Erased and said while promoting the film, “I waited a long time to be married to Nicole.” An anonymous “source” told the magazine that the country star thought Crowe was crossing a line and wanted him “to cool it with the public declarations of love.” Urban’s rep, however, told us on the record that the story was total nonsense. The tabloid also failed to mention that Urban and Crowe are close friends as well. Back in 2011, the country star surprised fans in Vancouver by bringing the actor on stage to perform a few songs with him.

Earlier in October, Woman’s Day Australia tried to fool readers into thinking that Kidman and Crowe had a “secret romance” at one point in their lives, despite the longtime friends never having been a couple. The two stars were featured on the cover of the tabloid, along with the headline, “Our Secret Romance: Russell Finally Tells All… 32 Years Later.” The accompanying article, however, didn’t include any “tell-all” from the actor. There was no mention of a “secret romance” either. The piece simply detailed Crowe and Kidman’s decades-long friendship. The sensational cover of the issue didn’t represent what was written inside, but was simply a bait-and-switch designed to dupe readers and sell magazines.

Last year, Gossip Cop called out the National Enquirer for making up a story about Crowe pursuing Kidman on the set of Boy Erased amid her so-called “marriage problems.” The first problem with the tabloid’s tale is that the actress and her husband of 12 years weren’t having any marital issues. Right around the same time the story was published, Kidman gushed about Urban on stage at the Emmys while accepting an award. Meanwhile, Crowe’s spokesperson assured us that he had no intention of hitting on his married co-star while shooting their movie. As time has shown, the co-stars didn’t develop a romance on the set of Boy Erased and Kidman is still happily married.
