A new tabloid report alleges “Big Little Lies” co-stars Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon are “best frenemies” who only pretend to like each other in front of the cameras. Of course, Gossip Cop has repeatedly debunked rumors of a feud between the two actresses, and we can exclusively set the record straight once again.
An article in the latest issue of OK! notes that Witherspoon and Kidman, both stars and producers of HBO’s “Big Little Lies,” appeared to be the best of friends as their show swept the Emmy Awards earlier this month. The hit show took home eight trophies, including Best Limited Series, but the magazine claims Witherspoon was secretly upset her co-star beat her out for lead actress.
“They can be very competitive,” a so-called “source” tells the magazine. “Working together was supposed to be fun but jealousy has driven a wedge between them. Reese feels like the show was her baby.” The outlet’s dubious insider adds, “She brought Nicole on board, so she’s frustrated that it’s her partner who’s now getting all the glory.”
It was recently announced Witherspoon will be teaming up with Jennifer Aniston for a new miniseries, but the tabloid claims the actress had been developing another project with Kidman before supposedly ditching the idea. “Nicole is annoyed that Reese is freezing her out professionally and personally,” says the questionable source. “She feels like Reese is trying to keep a circle of friends to herself, when she should be grateful that someone of Nicole’s caliber is giving her attention.”
But Gossip Cop has already shot down several reports about the actresses not liking each other, including an OK! article published shortly before the Emmys, which claimed Kidman and Witherspoon were in a feud over being nominated in the same category. Kidman went on to win the statue, but she said from the stage as she accepted her award, “Reese, I share this with you.” Additionally, Witherspoon didn’t go home empty-handed, as the actress/producer took the stage to accept the shows’s best limited series win.
Regardless, Gossip Cop once again checked in with a trustworthy source close to the situation, who laughed off the publication’s assertion that Kidman and Witherspoon have a fake friendship. We’re told the two women are good pals and look forward to working together again, possibly even on a second season of “Big Little Lies” should it come to fruition. The magazine is simply trying to pit two A-list co-stars against each other, but there’s no truth to the alleged drama.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
