A tabloid claims Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon are feuding "again," but the story is completely untrue. The "Big Little Lies" co-stars have never been at odds, and they aren't fighting now that their show is about to return for a second season. Gossip Cop can debunk the false report.
According to Life & Style, there's been tension between Kidman and Witherspoon since the first season of their hit HBO series, and the alleged battle has been escalating. A so-called source tells the magazine, "Reese is still bitter about the praise Nicole received for Season 1, including her Emmy and Golden Globe awards for best actress. Meanwhile, Nicole is rubbing her success in Reese's face."
The questionable insider goes on to say the "bad blood" between Kidman and Witherspoon, who are also co-producers on the show, affects everyone on set. "There seemed to be a power struggle going on," asserts the seemingly nonexistent insider, who adds Witherspoon is particularly "unfriendly and stuck-up." As for Kidman, she's supposedly a "phony" who "thinks Reese is acting like a jealous child."
The anonymous tipster further contends the "feuding" will get even worse with the June 9 premiere of the second season of "Big Little Lies." "They're both big stars with even bigger egos," insists the alleged source. "And Reese plans to lobby hard to get best actress over Nicole this year."
False rumors of a feud between Kidman and Witherspoon have been circulating since early 2017. In reality, the two women are close friends and frequently praise each other in interviews and on social media. Gossip Cop has debunked countless variations of this theme, including a previous Life & Style story claiming Kidman and Witherspoon are "fake friends" who secretly can't stand each other. There's nothing remotely accurate about the ongoing storyline.
In March, Kidman shared a sweet Instagram post in honor of her co-star's birthday, writing, "You deserve all the love and hugs in the world... Wishing you a happy happy happy birthday beautiful woman. Love being on this journey of life with you." Prior to that, Witherspoon celebrated her co-star's birthday on Instagram with a post that said, "Happy Birthday to this remarkable woman who I'm lucky enough to work with and call my friend. Everyday with you is an inspiration! Keep shining bright, Nic!!" These are just recent examples of the two actresses showing adoration for one another, but they've been doing it since the first season of their show.
Still, Gossip Cop checked in with Kidman's rep to get to the bottom of this latest take on the phony subject. The actress's spokesperson once again assures there's never been a feud between the co-stars, and there isn't a "new" one brewing. A source close to Witherspoon also confirms the two are close pals. This latest report seems to have been written to capitalize on the upcoming return of "Big Little Lies."
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
