Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon are not competing for awards and the spotlight when it comes to the second season of "Big Little Lies," despite a false tabloid report. Gossip Cop can debunk the bogus story. The co-stars aren't feuding, despite this narrative being frequently recycled.

According to Star, the two actresses have a "nasty competitive rivalry" behind the scenes of their hit HBO series, which returns for a second season next month. A supposed source tells the magazine that Witherspoon "is still bitter about all the praise Nicole received" for the show's first season and is determined to overshadow her co-star in season two. "She's ready to do more promoting of the show: more interviews, more pushing her own story arc," adds the alleged insider. "Once awards season starts up, she'll campaign to get votes for best actress."

The questionable tipster goes on to say that Witherspoon feels responsible for all the accolades Kidman received for the first season because "she did a lot of heavy lifting in getting 'Big Little Lies' on HBO - which gave Nicole the opportunity to earn those awards." The seemingly phony source adds, "Reese says Nicole acts like she doesn't care about all the adulation and praise she got for season one, but that's just Nicole being phony." As for Kidman, the actress "thinks Reese is just acting like a jealous child," says the suspicious insider. "This was bound to happen, with all these big stars, and even bigger egos, working on one set."

The tabloids have been attempting to create a fake feud between Kidman and Witherspoon ever since they first started working together on the first season of "Big Little Lies." In fact, Star kicked off the bogus narrative back in March 2017. Less than two weeks ago, Gossip Cop debunked another story about Kidman and Witherspoon being at odds. There's simply no truth to this ongoing saga.

As Gossip Cop has noted, the two actresses constantly praise each other in interviews and on social media. In March, Kidman posted a sweet Instagram message in honor of her co-star's birthday, writing, "You deserve all the love and hugs in the world... Wishing you a happy happy happy birthday beautiful woman. Love being on this journey of life with you."

Prior to that, Witherspoon celebrated Kidman's birthday on Instagram. "Happy Birthday to this remarkable woman who I'm lucky enough to work with and call my friend," the actress wrote to her co-star. "Everyday with you is an inspiration! Keep shining bright, Nic!!" In addition to the birthday posts, the actresses have praised each other in countless other ways since the first season of "Big Little Lies."

Meanwhile, Kidman's spokesperson has told Gossip Cop on the record several times that she and Witherspoon are close friends. For whatever reason, the tabloids are fixated on this false storyline about the two feuding. It's never been the case.

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
