Is Nicole Kidman upset about Meryl Streep joining the cast of “Big Little Lies” Season 2 because she fears the Oscar-winning actress is going to overshadow her? One of this week’s tabloids claims there’s a feud between the co-stars. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk this nonsense.

It was announced last month that Streep would be joining the second season of the hit HBO series, playing the mother-in-law of Kidman’s character. Streep’s character arrives in the town of Monterey searching for answers following the death of her son, played by Alexander Skarsgard. Fans are ecstatic about the Hollywood legend joining the show, but according to the tabloid New Idea, Kidman doesn’t share their enthusiasm.

A supposed source tells the magazine, “‘Big Little Lies’ brought Nicole’s career back to life after a string of box-office flops. She’s won back-to-back awards for it, and she is the toast of Hollywood again… So to think that Meryl could swoop in and steal her glory makes Nicole livid.” The alleged insider adds, “She couldn’t be less happy about Meryl joining the cast.”

However, there’s one major problem with the outlet’s claim: Kidman is the one who convinced Streep to join “Big Little Lies.” The book’s author Liane Moriarty revealed in a recent interview that she asked Kidman, who also produces the show, to persuade the legendary actress to sign on for Season 2. Kidman and Streep have been friends since they co-starred together in 2002’s The Hours. While there may be plenty of drama between their characters on-screen, in real-life the two are close pals.

Regardless of the publication’s story being provably false, Gossip Cop still checked in with a source close to the situation, who exclusively assures us on background that Kidman and the rest of the cast are thrilled that Streep has agreed to co-star. The tabloids have a habit of creating fake feuds between cast members, but had the magazine bothered to do even a little bit of fact-checking, it would have known that Kidman and Streep are close friends.

This isn’t the first time the tabloid has wrongly reported that Kidman was battling with another star. Gossip Cop recently busted the outlet for falsely claiming that the actress was feuding with Margot Robbie. New Idea clearly has no idea when it comes to Kidman’s relationships with her show business peers.
