Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban didn't have a "huge showdown" at a recent charity event. Their marriage is as solid as ever, despite one tabloid's claims that the two got into a confrontation over marital issues. Gossip Cop found the story to be ridiculous.
Kidman and Urban recently attended the Monte-Carlo Gala for the Global Ocean. NW claims the two seemed "frosty" at the event, refused to pose for pictures together and that their publicists were overheard asking their clients be "photographed separately." The magazine then claims the iciness continued once the event started and that the Big Little Lies star left the event in tears.
An unnamed "spy" tells the outlet, "Nic was in a complete state — she seemed to be lashing out at Keith for acting like a stranger and failing to take interest in her latest projects, despite her always being his biggest champion and supporting his career." This supposedly snowballed into a "huge showdown," culminating in Kidman running from "their table in tears." Additional unnamed "insiders" tell the magazine the spouses even stayed in separate hotel rooms during their trip to Monte Carlo. "Nic wanted nothing to do with Keith, who looked like a scolded puppy," the alleged tipster adds.
The very basis of the story is nonsense. The photo the outlet uses to depict the couple's "frosty" relationship is simply an image of Kidman and Urban walking passed Jane Seymour and Andy Garcia as they were photographed. Urban's disgruntled appearance is most likely due to the surprise of being photographed at an odd time. The uncropped version of the photo is below.
The idea that Urban refuses to support his wife's "latest projects" is also absurd. Kidman was one of the masters of ceremony at the charity event, and Urban attended as her date. The tabloid's remarks about the two asking to be photographed separately aren't true either. Urban didn't pose for any pictures at the event, most likely because he isn't affiliated with the organization. It seems the country star simply took a step back from photo ops, and allowed his wife to be in the spotlight for the charity she's promoting.
The tabloid also includes a separate photo of Urban with a stern expression on his face, but fails to mention that it was a shot of the musician at an Armani fashion show in July. When an outlet has to rely on tricks like mislabeled photos and purely anonymous onlookers, it generally isn't the most trustworthy. In this case, NW is clearly just trying to create drama out of a single, poorly-timed photograph. There's no other evidence of the supposed "showdown," despite a heavy media presence at the event. A source close to the spouses assures Gossip Cop they didn't have any sort of fight at the gala.
As Gossip Cop has pointed out before, Kidman and Urban remain very much in love after 13 years of marriage. Just last week, the couple performed a rendition of Elton John's "Your Song" at a friend's wedding in Italy, and the two looked as happy as can be singing together. Kidman's also spoken highly of Urban's support of her career, praising him for boosting her self-esteem as an actress and watching Big Little Lies.
The couple's longstanding relationship has survived its fair share of blatantly untrue gossip. In September, we busted Woman's Day for falsely claiming Kidman was fed up with Urban's lack of support at red carpet events. In July, Gossip Cop debunked a Star story about Kidman and Urban splitting up due to their busy careers. The tabloids are simply repeating the same fake stories as always.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
