Is Nicole Kidman “freaking out” about a book being written by Keith Urban? That was the claim from a tabloid exactly one year ago today. At the time, Gossip Cop exclusively reported the country singer wasn’t writing an autobiography which would expose intimate details about his and his wife’s life, and now 12 month later it’s clear that never happened.
On June 11, 2018, New Idea maintained Urban was working on a memoir that was filled with their “sordid secrets.” And to make its article sound more believable, the magazine asserted it had a source who said Kidman was “freaking out” about what her husband was going to make public, leading her to have “nightmares.” The same unnamed tipster shared how the Oscar-winner was nervous Urban was going to present her in a “bad light.”
The publication further insisted the book was going to delve into how they were “close to divorcing.” And it contended Urban could cash in even more if he “spill[ed] everything on Nicole.” That clause, noted the outlet, particularly terrified Kidman, who was afraid Urban was going to reveal her private thoughts about celebrity friends like Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, as well as what she confided to her husband about life with Tom Cruise. As a result of Urban’s “no-holds-barred” tell-all, it was reported the couple’s marriage was crumbling.
Of course, logically it made no sense 365 days ago that Urban would write an autobiography which would embarrass his wife and put their relationship in peril. Still, while the frequently debunked tabloid hid behind an anonymous and possibly fictitious source, Urban’s rep went on the record with Gossip Cop to confirm the magazine’s story was 100 percent untrue. Urban had no plans a year ago to write a book of any kind, and that’s still the case to this day.
It also bears mentioning that, contrary to the publication’s premise, the singer and actress have not been “close” to splitting up. While that outlet has wrongly claimed for some time Kidman and Urban are getting a divorce, the two remain very much together, and they routinely show their love and support for one another on social media. In fact, right before taking the stage at CMA Fest in Nashville a couple of days ago, Urban shared a video on Instagram in which he proudly urged his fans to watch the premiere of Kidman’s second season of “Big Little Lies.”
In the intervening year since it made up the tale about Urban writing a tell-all book about his marriage to Kidman, the tabloid has continued to publish fibs about the couple. A little more than two months ago, Gossip Cop busted the very same magazine when it ran an accurate story about Urban being “furious” with Kidman for having their daughters appear as extras on her TV series, “The Undoing.” The country singer’s rep assured Gossip Cop that article was also a complete falsehood, as was a subsequent piece which incorrectly alleged Urban was concerned about Kidman growing close to Hugh Grant, her co-star on that same HBO show.
As Gossip Cop has noted before, we often look back at articles from the year before to show how they’ve held up over time. Mostly, it’s to help readers assess which outlets they can and cannot trust for reliable information. As we’ve illustrated, New Idea has repeatedly printed big and little lies about Kidman and Urban.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
