Nicole Kidman never called Donald Trump the "best president in U.S. history," despite an absurd report. The story is just baseless clickbait. Gossip Cop can expose this fake news.
A new headline on the blog NY Evening News reads, "Nicole Kidman Says: Trump Is The Best President In U.S. History... Do You Stand With Nicole?" The phony headline is based on January 2017 BBC interview in which the actress was asked her reaction to Trump winning the election. She responded, "I just say he's now elected and we as a country need to support whoever's the president because that's what the country's based on. However that happened, he's there, and let's go." That's all the actress had to say on the subject. At no point did she come close to calling Trump the "best president in U.S. history."
In fact, Kidman clarified her comments about Trump in a subsequent interview with "Access Hollywood," explaining that her words weren't meant as an endorsement. "I was trying to stress that I believe in democracy and the American Constitution, and it was that simple," she noted.
NY Evening News, a blog that appears to specialize in fake news, simply took an old interview with Kidman and attached a bogus headline to it. It should also be noted, the actress made her comments about Trump before he was sworn into office. The untrustworthy outlet is simply trying to get clicks by attributing a fake quote to Kidman. None of this is based in reality.
For whatever reason, fake news websites have a history of falsely claiming that an A-list star praised Trump. Last year, Gossip Cop busted a similarly made-up story about Julia Roberts calling Trump "the best president in U.S. history." Shortly after that, another blog wrongly reported that Emma Stone said Americans need to "stand behind" Trump. And earlier this year, a fake news site falsely alleged that Denzel Washington said "Trump saved America." Other celebrities who've been erroneously labeled Trump supporters include Brad Pitt, Harrsion Ford and Kevin Bacon.
It's also worth mentioning, had Kidman actually declared Trump "the best president in U.S. history," her statement would be worldwide news. Instead, a random blog is the only outlet in the world reporting that the actress made such a comment. When it comes to her thoughts on Trump, Kidman simply expressed that America needs to support "whoever's the president," and she said it back in January 2017.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
