Is Nicole Kidman trying to save her son Connor Cruise from Scientology? That's the claim in one of this week's tabloids. Gossip Cop, however, has learned it's bogus.
Kidman's adopted son with Tom Cruise currently lives in Clearwater, Florida near the headquarters of the Church of Scientology, where he works as a deckhand on a deep-sea fishing boat. The 23-year-old gave up his DJ-ing career to settle in Clearwater, where his dad also owns a home. According to New Idea, Kidman "is fearing the worst" for her son as he gets more involved in Scientology.
The magazine quotes a so-called "close friend" of the actress as saying, "Nicole is tearing her hair out with worry. She is incredibly concerned Connor is being punished for his wild partying and committing crimes in the church's eyes." The outlet's questionable source adds, "'Nicole knows how they work and is worried Connor won't be able to cope with all the strict Scientology sanctions and rules - she's very concerned."
The alleged insider goes on to say that Kidman "doesn't want Scientology to dig its claws into Connor any deeper" and also "doesn't want him to follow in Tom's footsteps." The supposed source adds, "She plans to do everything in her power to rescue him."
This premise is coming from one of Kidman's anonymous and seemingly nonexistent "friends." On the other hand, Gossip Cop checked in with the actress's spokesperson, who's qualified to speak on her behalf, and we're told the story is fabricated. Although there's much mystery surrounding Kidman's relationship with her adopted children, Connor and oldest daughter Bella, the idea that she's trying to save her son from Scientology simply isn't true.
It's worth noting, the tabloids have come up with similar narratives in the past. Back in 2014, OK! falsely claimed that Connor reached out to Kidman and asked to help get him out of Scientology. Considering that the young man willingly relocated near the Church's headquarters, it's unlikely he ever asked his mom for help. It's clear that Connor is dedicated to the religion on his own accord.
Shortly before that, Gossip Cop busted OK! for wrongly reporting that Kidman and Cruise were battling over Connor's health. It was alleged that the actress was worried about her son becoming "pudgy," but her ex-husband refused to give him nutrition tips because "Scientology's parenting ethos suggests parents treat kids like grown-ups." There was no truth to the ridiculous story, and the same goes for this latest one.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
