Is Nicole Kidman refusing to return for a third season of "Big Little Lies"? One of this week's tabloids claims the actress is tired of the hit HBO series. Gossip Cop can correct the inaccurate premise.
The second season of "Big Little Lies" doesn't debut until next year, but according to NW, Kidman is ready to move on from the show. An alleged insider tells the magazine, "She doesn't want to seem ungrateful but she really doesn't want to do another season. Working with a bunch of willful women is a lot of work."
The supposed source goes on to say that Kidman is thankful for all the accolades and awards she's received for her role on the show, "but bunking down in Northern California for months doesn't appeal to her anymore." The questionable tipster goes on to say that Kidman has other projects she'd rather focus on, so if co-star and co-producer Reese Witherspoon "brings up doing a third season, she can honestly say she's too busy."
The tabloid's article is based on a comment that Kidman made in a recent interview with Variety. The actress expressed that a third season of "Big Little Lies" might not happen because "it would be hard to get the whole group together." The tabloid cites what she said, but leaves out one major detail. Kidman had also added, "But we would love to do it." You won't find that key quote in the magazine's bogus story. The actress made it clear that she'd be happy to do another season of the HBO show, but thinks it might be difficult to pull off due to the cast's busy schedules.
Meanwhile, the idea that Kidman doesn't enjoy working alongside her female co-stars simply isn't true. In reality, the actress frequently praises her colleagues, both in interviews and on social media. When then second season of "Big Little Lies" was officially announced earlier this year, Kidman wrote on Instagram, "Excited to share the screen again with all of my #BigLittleLies sisters."
Several months later, after the second season of the show wrapped filming, Kidman expressed on Instagram, "What a beautiful journey this has been with my Monterey 5 sisters." And on the night of the Emmy Awards two months ago, Kidman shared an Instagram photo of the "Big Little Lies" cast on stage at the 2017 Emmys. She added the caption, "So looking forward to watching the #Emmys tonight... I have such indelible memories from last year." The actress wasn't involved in this year's ceremony, but went out of her way to reminisce about being with her co-stars at last year's event.
Regardless, Gossip Cop checked in with a rep for Kidman, who confirms that the tabloid's story is false. We're further told that "no one is even talking about a third season" yet. The future of "Big Little Lies" after Season 2 remains uncertain, but the actress certainly isn't refusing to return.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
