Did Nicole Kidman act as Keith Urban's movie agent? That was the claim in one of the tabloids exactly one year ago today. At the time, Gossip Cop noted Kidman wasn't going around advertising herself as the country singer's "wagent" (wife and agent), and now 12 months later it's even clearer the report was false.
On February 1, 2018, Woman's Day maintained Urban desperately wanted to become an actor, and Kidman was going to help him realize that goal. The publication quoted a "source" contending the Oscar-winner was "calling herself [Urban's] 'wagent,' wife and agent" and planned to "coin the phrase just like Kris Jenner did with 'momager.'" The article asserted Urban could easily have been cast as any of a number of superheroes, including Iron Man, Wolverine or Thor, and had already been sent out on a number of auditions.
When Gossip Cop first debunked the claim, we pointed out how Urban wouldn't even have had the opportunity to shoot a movie since he would have had to land a role right away and basically gone straight into production before hitting the road with his music. As mentioned 365 days ago, Urban kicked off his "Graffiti U World" Tour in June 2018 and is still on it through March of this year. And far from pitching her husband for film parts, for the most part Kidman has instead joined Urban on tour.
Additionally, not only wasn't the country singer looking to carry a big budget action-adventure film, but he wasn't even pursuing bit parts. Following her SAG Awards win last year for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie for her work on the HBO show "Big Little Lies," Kidman said a collaboration onscreen with Urban was not a possibility. She explained in the press room afterwards, "I don't think that having a cameo on one of my projects would interest him."
Of course, a year has passed and Urban has even flirted with transitioning into acting, nor has Kidman tried to be his film agent. Gossip Cop was assured then by an insider in Urban's camp it was untrue, and it remains false to this day. Since then, Woman's Day has not become any more accurate with its articles about the couple.
Just two months after that error, the tabloid ran a wholly inaccurate cover story that insisted Kidman and Urban were "over" and getting a divorce. And just a little more than a week ago, the same unreliable publication wrongly alleged Kidman was on tour with Urban to dispel cheating rumors. The reality is their marriage is very solid, and Urban and Kidman were caught packing on the PDA at the Australian Open last week.
Occasionally, Gossip Cop revisits a story from one year ago to show visitors how other sites' and magazines' articles have fared over time. It's both to help readers come to their own conclusions about which outlets to trust, and to underscore how the truth ultimately emerges. In this case, not only didn't Kidman try to make Urban a movie star, but she also put her own acting career on the back burner to support her husband's latest music tour.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
