An article claiming Nicki Minaj was “embarrassed” about her purported “camel toe” at Sunday’s VMAs was made up. Gossip Cop can expose this apparent fabrication.

As Gossip Cop reported, Minaj performed “Swish Swish” with Katy Perry at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards. While she had a special referee-inspired costume for the performance, she originally showed up to the star-studded event in a latex jumpsuit. The clingy material naturally leaves little to the imagination and takes the form of a person’s body. And so, depending on Minaj’s movement, at times the plastic-y outfit was wrapped tightly around her lady parts (see photo above).

A number of people on social media commented, and MediaTakeOut even turned it into a whole story with a close-up photo of Minaj’s nether region. Now HollywoodLife is trying to capitalize on the situation by pretending to know Minaj’s own reaction to the so-called “wardrobe malfunction.” In a supposed “exclusive,” the webloid maintains “the singer was totally appalled when she saw the pics of how she looked, but soon relaxed when she realized the hilarity of the situation.”

“Nicki is embarrassed by her major camel toe at the VMAs,” an alleged “insider” is quoted as telling the site. This (likely invented) tipster goes on to assert, “She had no idea it would be that obvious until she was under the lights and camera and by that time it was too late. Her phone was blowing up all night afterward with friends teasing her. After the embarrassment quickly wore off, she had a good laugh about the pink outfit which she vowed to never wear again.”

Of course, there multiple fallacies in those quotes. The appearance of Minaj’s “camel toe” had nothing to do with the “lights and camera.” This wasn’t a matter of camera lights turning an outfit sheer, like with other wardrobe malfunctions. It was simply the result of the fabric’s structure, and it was no surprise to Minaj or her camp. Her finished look was obviously evaluated before she arrived for the event and she was well-aware of her appearance from all angles. It’s also laughable to claim the rapper was “embarrassed,” given that she’s had actual nip slips and other revealing fashion disasters at past concerts, including the 2014 VMAs, when Minaj infamously couldn’t get her dress zipped and had to hold it closed during her performance.

And the notion Minaj would be “appalled” over something where no skin was actually visible when she repeatedly flaunts her bare body on Instagram and in music videos doesn’t make sense. Furthermore, she posted roughly 10 photos of herself in the jumpsuit on social media. If Minaj was so bothered by how she looked, why would she show it off online? Lastly, the outlet’s “insider” makes a point of claiming Minaj “vowed to never wear” the ensemble again, even though stars almost never re-wear their red carpet outfits, anyway.

So, it was hard for Gossip Cop to believe HollywoodLies actually had a source giving Minaj’s reaction when none of the claims provided are very logical. No surprise, we’ve since been assured the piece was made up.
