Nicki Minaj should apologize for mocking a physically challenged woman in a wheelchair on Saturday night in Las Vegas. What’s beyond shockingly is that the singer thought it was funny and even posted it online. See the tasteless video below.

As a woman in a motorized wheelchair rode by Minaj and her entourage, who were in Las Vegas for her hosting of a Halloween party at 1Oak, the singer, dressed as a fairy princess, waved a wand and laughed, “Walk! I demand you walk!” Minaj also cackled as she said, “Now if only I could find Handi-Man,” referring to Damon Wayon’s “In Living Color” character of a physically challenged superhero.

Some supporters of Minaj’ tasteless remark allege that she’s friends with the woman in the motorized wheelchair, and therefore it was not offensive. But Gossip Cop is not buying it. Even if the two women are fine with such a crass joke, Minaj certainly does not know how the rest of the physically challenged community would react to it.

For instance, what if a white man and his black friend were cool with the white guy calling his black pal the N-word. Let’s just say for argument’s sake, it was a little joke between the two of them (though obviously it’s really not funny). Now, what if the white guy publicly posted an Instagram video of himself calling his pal the N-word and he and his buddies laughed as he did it?

It would not be funny, and it would be as equally offensive and reprehensible as Minaj joking at the expense of someone with a physical disability. Gossip Cop would love to actually get a comment from Alan T. Brown, a quadriplegic and revered advocate for the physically challenged community, but we can’t because he’s busy, as we write, competing in the New York City Marathon, raising awareness and needed funds for individuals with spinal cord injuries.

What’s Nicki Minaj doing? Here’s a suggestion: She should be apologizing. NOTE: The video is no longer available.

UPDATE: Nicki Minaj claims the person in the video is “NOT a disabled person,” but even more curiously she removed the video. Gossip Cop has reached out to a rep for a comment about why she suddenly removed the video.
