Did Miranda Lambert refuse to perform at a concert after learning that ex-husband Blake Shelton was going to be there? That’s the story in one of the tabloids. Gossip Cop investigated the claim and we’ve learned it’s totally false.

According to OK!, country music legend George Strait asked Lambert to join him on stage at his August 17 show in Boston, but once she found out that Shelton also planned to play with Strait during the show, she backed out. A supposed source tells the outlet, “George told Miranda she was still welcome to play, but she doesn’t want to be within 100 miles of Blake.”

The alleged insider adds, “Time doesn’t heal all wounds in this case — and probably never will. But they have to realize that it’s going to be nearly impossible to never cross paths when they’re in the same industry.” Time-wise, the tabloid’s tale just doesn’t add up. Lambert was in Alberta, Canada on August 16 for the Country Thunder Music Festival. Her set started at 9 p.m. and most likely lasted a few hours, not including the breakdown and storage of equipment and instruments.

Meanwhile, the flight time of Alberta to Boston is seven and a half hours, with Boston being two hours ahead already. Strait’s concert started at 5 p.m., so the logistics of Lambert getting there in time to sort out the details of the show seems very difficult.

The other big hole in the story is Lambert’s supposed surprise at Shelton’s presence. Strait and Shelton have been performing together since Strait’s show was announced back in March. The collaboration was even announced on Strait’s Instagram page. It’s highly unlikely Lambert would be unaware that Shelton performs with Strait, and equally unlikely that Strait would invite Shelton’s ex-wife to one of their shows.

Why would Lambert be surprised by Shelton’s presence when his name and picture is included next to Strait’s on all promotion for the show? Nothing about the tabloid’s story adds up. Still, Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the situation, who confirms its fabricated.

Of course, this isn’t the first time OK! has been wrong about country stars. In March 2018, Gossip Cop busted the tabloid for falsely claiming Lambert and Gwen Stefani had an angry face-off over Shelton. The year before that, it published an outrageous story about Stefani being pregnant with Shelton’s twins. Time has reaffirmed that the magazine isn’t a good source for the truth.
