Miley Cyrus‘ friends are not urging her to check into rehab for an addiction to social media, despite a completely made-up tabloid report. Gossip Cop can correct the story. It’s totally baseless.
According to Heat, the singer’s loved ones fear she’s been spiraling out of control following her split from Liam Hemsworth over the summer. “Even by Miley’s standards, this is a new level of going off the rails and everyone is worried,” an alleged insider tells the outlet. “Her management wants her to go to rehab before she does any more damage to her career.”
The magazine goes on to cite Cyrus’ short-lived fling with Kaitlynn Carter and her current romance with Cody Simpson as signs that she’s having some sort of breakdown. From there, the outlet references the singer’s recent Instagram live video, in which she took a dig at Hemsworth by saying Simpson is the “only” good man she’s ever met.
Cyrus got some heat from the LGBTQ community by suggesting in the same video that women “don’t have to be gay” if they’re able to find a good man. The singer later clarified her comments and made it clear, “It has always been my priority to protect the LGBTQ community.”
The semi-controversy, which has quickly blown over, resulted in Heat claiming Cyrus’ team wants her to take a step back from public life. “Miley is being encouraged to go to rehab,” says the suspicious tipster. “She can’t seem to stay off social media and is addicted to the attention.”
It should be noted, there are several rehab facilities that treat addiction to social media, but that type of care is typically included in a broader program that focuses on drug and alcohol addiction and mental health disorders. It’s quite unusual to check into a facility for social media addiction alone, and there aren’t any rehabs that exclusively deal with that issue.
More importantly, Cyrus recently revealed that she’s been sober for four months. In fact, the singer made the revelation during an Instagram live video. Naturally, Heat didn’t bother to mention that important tidbit. People magazine, a much more reliable source for celebrity news than any tabloid, similarly reported that both Cyrus and Simpson are sober and “focused on health, work and spending time together.”
Despite how ridiculous the tabloid’s story sounds, Gossip Cop still checked in with a source close to Cyrus, who assures us there’s no truth to it. No one in the singer’s inner circle is worried about her mental state or social media usage. Heat is the same magazine that wrongly reported in January 2018 that Cyrus and Hemsworth were secretly married and on their honeymoon in Australia. Considering that the exes didn’t tie the knot until December 2018, it’s clear the magazine knows nothing about the singer’s personal life.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
