Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are not secretly married, despite a new tabloid cover story claiming the couple recently eloped in Georgia without telling any friends or family. Gossip Cop looked into the alleged wedding tale and we can exclusively set the record straight.
According to OK!, Cyrus and Hemsworth wed in late October on Tybee Island in Savannah, where their romance first began while filming 2010’s The Last Song. A so-called “friend of the couple” tells the magazine, “The idea to elope was spur-of-the-moment. Liam’s been filming in Savannah, and he asked Miley to visit for a long weekend. Then he realized Tybee Island, where they first met, would be the perfect place to tie the knot.”
The outlet’s dubious source goes on to say the pair had initially been planning a lavish wedding, but coordinating their schedules became difficult, so the singer “figured it would never happen unless they eloped, which is more their style anyway.” The “insider” continues, “They’re both very low-key. There’s no way Miley would wear anything but a little sundress and cowboy boots, her favorite look.” The seemingly phony source further contends that the couple will throw a big party in Malibu and go on a honeymoon when time permits, but for now “they’re just enjoying the moment.”
Interestingly, the tabloid doesn’t furnish one single detail about the alleged nuptials, including the date. And there’s a simple reason why. Gossip Cop has learned there’s no truth to any of this. A clerk at the Chatham County Probate Court, where Cyrus and Hemsworth would have had to obtain a marriage license, checked the records and confirmed they did not wed on Tybee Island. The tabloid’s entire account of events is simply made-up.
Of course, OK! often publishes falsehoods about the couple, so we’re not particularly surprised by this latest fabrication. In fact, Gossip Cop called out the magazine last month for falsely claiming Cyrus and Hemsworth were calling off their engagement. Peculiarly, this new article fails to explain how they went from breaking up to getting married in a matter of weeks. And last year, we busted the tabloid for wrongly reporting Cyrus was pregnant with Hemsworth’s baby. The publication consistently spreads lies about the couple, and this latest cover story is yet another example.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
