A story about why Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth may never get married is made-up. It was manufactured by the same site that has falsely claimed several times in the past that the couple had wed. That’s just one of three reasons why Gossip Cop can bust this apparent fabrication.

HollywoodLife is boasting, “One of Miley Cyrus’ friends tells us exclusively that Miley and Liam have NO plans to get married right now!” It’s alleged the pop star is “taking a cue from her ‘role models,’ Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, and contemplating just staying together for the rest of their lives without a marriage certificate.” The purported “friend” is quoted as saying, “Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell are so rock and roll — they’ve been together for so many years, like decades, but never actually got married.”

“[Miley] thinks that’s hot and she says she and Liam could do the same thing,” claims the supposed pal. The blog’s alleged tipster goes on to contend, “Miley and Liam consider themselves married. They refer to each other like they are, too, so it’s a bit confusing. But Miley swears they haven’t actually tied the knot and she says they may never do it.”

But there are three reasons why it appears this story was manufactured. First off, several times in recent years this same outlet has falsely claimed Cyrus and Hemsworth have wed. In fact, Gossip Cop busted HollywoodLife as far back as January 2013 for wrongly alleging the couple had a “secret wedding” over Christmas 2012. In the summer of 2016, the online publication again announced they were “already married,” but had kept the marriage hidden from fans.

By early 2017, the site had a new narrative, speculating Cyrus and Hemsworth had married over New Year’s Eve. A few months later, the blog flip-flopped on whether or not they had secretly tied the knot. When early 2018 rolled around, Gossip Cop pointed out that Cyrus and Hemsworth were still not married, despite the website’s prior claims. So can HollywoodLife really be trusted now when it purports to have insight on whether the couple will wed? Based on its track record, the answer is clearly no. After all, if HollywoodLife really had access to one of Cyrus’ “friends,” as it now claims, it should’ve known the truth in all of those past instances.

The second reason why it seems this latest storyline was made-up is because Cyrus has never said anything about Hawn and Russell being her “role models.” What’s more, though, is that the website has used this comparison before, in a 2017 story about Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton not getting married. In that piece, a so-called “source” was quoted as saying, “One thing they often bring up is how they could be the modern-day Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell and be together forever but never get married.” Gossip Cop doesn’t think it’s coincidence that the Hawn-Russell dynamic is now being applied to Cyrus and Hemsworth by the same outlet. Rather, it’s evidence that this “friend” is likely just as fictional as the “source” in the Stefani story.

And the third reason that indicates this is all an exercise in creative writing, as opposed to a legitimate scoop, is that TMZ already reported exactly a month ago that Cyrus and Hemsworth are in no rush to get married, and may never actually do so. The site specifically said that “going to the altar isn’t important and, in fact, it may never happen.” Even long before that, last December Us Weekly reported that Cyrus and Hemsworth have “zero plans” for a wedding, and “consider themselves married.” None of this is original or unique to HollywoodLife.

To recap, the publication is pretending it’s new news that Cyrus and Hemsworth may never wed when that’s been known for a while now. The site claims the singer sees themselves as being like Hawn and Russell, the same analogy the blog previously used in a similar story about Shelton and Stefani. And the website has a documented history of peddling phony claims about Cyrus and Hemsworth being married. All of this points to this being a bogus “exclusive” that was made-up by the outlet that’s known as HollywoodLies.
