Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth did not secretly get married during their New Year’s trip to Australia, despite a false report. Gossip Cop can debunk the supposed nuptials. We’re told the couple hasn’t tied the knot.

According to the Australian tabloid NW, the singer and actor wed while vacationing in Byron Bay over the holidays. A so-called “insider” tells the magazine, “It’s such a special place for them. It felt right. It’s where they realized that they couldn’t live without each other and decided to really give their relationship another go.”

The outlet’s questionable source further maintains that Cyrus and Hemsworth are “very passionate and impulsive people,” so it’s not too surprising they would decide to get married on a whim. “It was a no-brainer that it’d be the place they tied the knot, if and when they decided to,” adds the seemingly nonexistent insider.

The magazine fails to provide a single detail about the couple’s alleged wedding ceremony, such as precisely where and when it took place or who attended. Also, there’s not a single reputable publication reporting that Cyrus and Hemsworth “are officially husband and wife,” as the tabloid asserts. Regardless, Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the situation, who exclusively assures us the couple didn’t wed in secret during their recent trip to Australia.

Unfortunately, outlets such as the Daily Mail, The Sun, HollywoodLife and RadarOnline spread the bogus marriage rumors without bothering to do any fact-checking. This is despite Cyrus saying in a recent interview that she doesn’t “envision marriage” anytime soon. The singer explained, “I’m 24. I hope to get to live a little bit more. I have too much living to do.”

It’s worth noting, both Cyrus and Hemsworth wear gold bands on their fingers, which has fueled speculation they’re married. However, Gossip Cop can confirm that the bands are “promise rings,” not wedding rings.
