Miley Cyrus is not on a “deadly divorce diet” following her split from Liam Hemsworth, despite a false tabloid article. The story simply isn’t true. Gossip Cop can bust it.

The cover of this week’s NW boldly proclaims Cyrus is “wasting away on weed and booze” in the wake of her marriage ending. The magazine asserts that the singer’s weight has dropped to 88 pounds and she’s been “self-medicating” with drugs and alcohol. The outlet quotes a so-called “source” as saying, “She barely eats, her six-pack is fading, her ribs are poking out. When she does eat, it’s the odd piece of fruit or a handful of nuts.”

According to the alleged insider, Cyrus’ friends “fear if she continues this way, her body will begin to shut down.” The suspicious tipster adds, “A belly full of food makes her feel bloated, depressed and like she’s lost control.” The article continues to drive home the idea that Cyrus is reeling from her breakup with Hemsworth, using weed as her escape. “When she smokes, Miley sees a beauty in the world and forgets any pain,” says the seemingly phony source. “She thinks of herself as very spiritual and truly believes that the pot – and the way it makes her feel – feeds both her body and her soul more any food could.”

To illustrate the singer’s supposed weight loss, the tabloid uses a “before” photo of the singer looking fuller. The outlet doesn’t mention that this picture was taken in 2011. Even worse, the “after” photo was taken from an Instagram post by Cyrus on August 2, more than a week before she announced her breakup. This isn’t exactly an honest representation of what’s transpired in the month since the singer split with Hemsworth. Gossip Cop also checked in with one of our sources in Cyrus’ camp, who calls the report “ridiculous” and further assures us the singer is “doing great.”

Cyrus has been very open about smoking pot, but there’s zero indication she uses it to “self-medicate,” as NW alleges. Of course, this is hardly the first time the tabloid has published a bogus story regarding Cyrus’ mental health. In August, the outlet falsely claimed Cyrus was being admitted to a psych ward to save her marriage to Hemsworth. Sadly, the marriage didn’t work out, but the star was never sent to a mental hospital to save her relationship. Gossip Cop pointed out that Cyrus was on tour in Eastern Europe at the time of the report, not in a psych ward.

The magazine’s track record in the wake of Cyrus’ split has also been predictably poor. Earlier this month, the outlet wrongly reported Cyrus and Kaitlynn Carter were planning to wed once their respective divorces were finalized. Cyrus’ rep told us the story was “completely false” when it was first published, and the singer ended her romance with Carter over the weekend. The outlet simply has zero insight into the singer’s personal life.
