Michael Strahan is not “secretly planning to beg Kelly Ripa to take him back” as her co-host on “Live,” despite a new report. Gossip Cop looked into the claim and it’s completely wrong. We’re told by a mutual friend of ours and the former NFL player it’s “not true” that Strahan wants to return to “Live.”

RadarOnline alleges a “network source” says, “Michael wishes that he’d never left ‘Live with Kelly and Michael!’” “He had the best job on TV, with his name in the show’s title,” asserts the supposed insider, adding, “Now, Michael is the third banana on ‘GMA,’ and the show’s new afternoon hour featuring him as the host is tanking.” As a result, contends the website, “Strahan is convinced he has no choice but to plead with Kelly to forgive him and let him rejoin ‘Live’ — even though he’s been replaced by fan favorite Ryan Seacrest — before he gets axed at ‘GMA.’”

The often disproven outlet further claims, “Michael and his people are working out a strategy on how to approach Kelly.” The tabloid’s so-called “source” alleges, “Michael plans to pass himself off as an innocent pawn of the network execs, but it’s two years later and Kelly is still feeling sandbagged.” “It going to be a very hard sell,” concludes the seemingly made-up tipster.

Gossip Cop investigated the site’s report and various sources at ABC shrugged off the premise as absurd. We also touched base with a mutual pal of Gossip Cop and Strahan and were assured the tall tale is “not true.” Additionally, a rep for Strahan also calls the story “ridiculous.”

As reported at the time, in April 2016, Strahan left “Live” to join the “Good Morning America” team. The network informed his co-anchor of the change only shortly before a public announcement was made. An upset Ripa later boycotted her own show for a few days before returning to the set. And while the tabloid now maintains the former football star turned broadcaster is begging Ripa to “take me back,” by his own words, Strahan has said he wouldn’t change anything about his “Live” exit. He’s since explained, “I had the opportunity to do something that most people don’t… I [got] a chance to evolve, to do different creative things.”

It should be noted, this is hardly the first time RadarOnline has falsely reported Strahan regrets his decision to leave Ripa and “Live.” In December 2016, the website posted an article in which it editorialized how Strahan had “the best job in show business… with his name in the title.” That’s exactly what it now sketchily attributes to a “source” as saying two years later.

Additionally, the repeatedly discredited blog’s sister publication, the National Enquirer, also tried to peddle a story in 2016 about how Strahan was “begging” Ripa to return to “Live” because he supposedly had no clout at “Good Morning America.” It wasn’t true then, and it’s particularly false now that he has his own spinoff with “GMA Day.” No matter how these outlets try to reheat, regurgitate, and even rewrite their claims about Strahan “begging” Ripa to return to “Live,” they’re still 100 percent wrong.
