Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander aren’t planning a New Year’s Eve wedding, despite an inaccurate report in one of this week’s new tabloids. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk the story.

An article in the latest issue of the National Enquirer quotes a supposed “source” as saying that the couple of three years recently “decided it was time to buy a house in L.A. and get engaged.” The magazine goes on to claim the pair plan to throw a New Year’s Eve bash at the end of the year that will turn into a surprise wedding.

But Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to Fassbender, who exclusively assures us the actor and his girlfriend aren’t planning New Year’s nuptials. We’re told the couple, who met while filming the romantic drama The Light Between Oceans, aren’t throwing a surprise wedding and the tabloid’s report is simply “not true.”

Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time we’ve had to debunk a phony story about the couple’s relationship. Gossip Cop busted the Enquirer’s sister publication, Star, for wrongly reporting in 2015 that Fassbender and Vikander were on the verge of a breakup. Shortly after that, we called out Us Weekly for falsely claiming Fassbender and Vikander had split. Obviously the couple is still very much together. The narrative may have changed from a breakup to marriage this time around, but it’s still not accurate.
