Does Mel B want to be with Heidi Klum romantically? And is the model open to becoming lovers? Those are the salacious claims in a new tabloid story about the "America's Got Talent" colleagues. Gossip Cop can debunk the silliness.
The National Enquirer begins its story by asserting, "'America's Got Talent' judges Mel B and Heidi Klum are guilty of being smitten with each other, according to insiders on the set." That's a problematic claim considering they haven't been on the "AGT" set since the NBC competition wrapped its 12th season more than two months ago. Still, the supermarket tabloid quotes a so-called "source" as saying, "Mel appears to have set her post-divorce sights on Heidi... Plenty of their co-workers and friends are sure they've become lovers."
On Klum's side, the gossip magazine alleges she's "getting a lot more comfortable with the attention and is ready for Mel to spice up her life." Contends a supposed "source," "Now that Heidi's single, she's open for others... Mel put it in Heidi's head that she didn't need to settle [with ex Vito Schnabel] and that she doesn't need a man to make her happy." What's more is that the outlet maintains "it was apparent the two became one when Mel and Heidi stunned onlookers by clinging to each other all night at a recent MTV Video Awards show."
"They raised a lot of eyebrows because Mel was all over Heidi," a purported "spy on the scene" claims to the publication. But the MTV VMAs didn't take place recently. They were held back in August. Klum and Brown were there as part of their promotional duties for "America's Got Talent" and acted friendly because they are. No one at the time claimed they were becoming more than friends because they're not. The tabloid even tries suggesting that an October hangout between the two was a "date," even though no reputable outlet interpreted it as such, just like no one read into their night out a couple of months prior.
It is true that Mel B has had at least one lesbian relationship in years past, and Mel B and Klum actually just celebrated Thanksgiving together. But that doesn't mean their friendship has "turned romantic." Gossip Cop is told by Klum's camp that while they've leaned each other in the wake of the respective breakups this year, they don't see each other "like THAT." In fact, Mel B made it clear that they're just close pals, writing on Instagram four days ago, "When you and your best friend hang out together with ya kids too, you just have to have your quick girly girlpower chat haha @heidiklum her face says it all, I just LOVE this woman!!!! Yippeeeee #geminipowers #singlemothersworkinghard #womenempoweringwomen #ebonyandivory." There's nothing else to see here.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
