Megyn Kelly Replace Matt Lauer Today

(In Touch)

Megyn Kelly isn’t being groomed to replace Matt Lauer on the “Today Show,” despite a completely inaccurate tabloid cover story. Gossip Cop looked into the situation, and we’ve exclusively learned the truth.

The former Fox News host signed a deal with NBC earlier this year to host her own Sunday night talk show and potentially anchor the third hour of “Today.” The latest cover of In Touch, however, dramatically blares, “Matt’s Out! Megyn Kelly Taking Over At Today.” The inside article claims NBC bosses want Kelly to take over Lauer’s 7-9 a.m. time slot when the newsman’s contract expires next year.

A supposed “source” tells the magazine, “Matt’s furious about what’s happening. They’re going to do everything in their power to make Megyn work. They’re laying the groundwork for her to become Matt’s successor at ‘Today.’ He’s been supplanted by their new golden girl.” The “source” further contends the chairman of NBC News “has given her the keys to the kingdom,” despite the lackluster start of Kelly’s Sunday night news show, which was recently criticized when she interviewed Sandy Hook shooting denier Alex Jones.

The magazine still insists Kelly is “in and Matt’s out at the network” despite the backlash, before quoting its questionable source as saying, “What Megyn wants, Megyn gets… It’s going to be a big mess. And all Matt can do is stand by and watch.” But Gossip Cop investigated this alleged behind-the-scenes drama by checking in with a higher-up at NBC, who exclusively assures us the network isn’t swapping out Lauer for Kelly. “Once again, there is no truth to this,” we’re told about the tabloid’s claim.

In fact, In Touch has been recycling this same false narrative for months. Gossip Cop busted the publication’s April cover story alleging Kelly replaced Lauer in interviewing Vladimir Putin. We also called out the magazine in February when it wrongly reported Lauer was “dumped” for Kelly as lead anchor of “Today.” This latest article in the tabloid’s ongoing phony saga surrounding the NBC employees is equally fabricated.
