Is Megyn Kelly furious at Charlize Theron for refusing to meet her before portraying her in the upcoming movie Bombshell? That’s the claim in one of this week’s tabloids. Gossip Cop can confirm that it’s mostly inaccurate.
Theron has explained in various interviews that she didn’t want to meet the former Fox News anchor before playing her in Bombshell, which follows the downfall of late Fox News chief Roger Ailes. The actress told Variety earlier this year that she wanted to “tell the story from afar” and it might “get emotional” and impact her performance if she were to meet Kelly before filming.
According to Star, Kelly was expecting Theron to sit down with her prior to making the movie, and she’s irate that the actress wouldn’t do so. “Being iced out like that really threw her,” a supposed source tells the magazine. The alleged insider further contends that Kelly is “seething” over the snub and had “expected to be embraced” by Theron.
Although it’s true that Theron kept her distance from Kelly while shooting Bombshell, the tabloid’s take on the newswoman’s reaction isn’t correct. Just last month, in fact, Kelly said she was a “fan” of Theron. When asked about the actress playing her on screen, Kelly noted, “She seems smart, seems like a good mom, so I could do worse.”
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight shortly after, Theron responded to Kelly’s comments about her. “That’s incredibly kind,” the actress said when told that the former TV anchor approved of her casting. She added, “I’m sure it can’t be easy for her, so I’m incredibly understanding.”
It’s worth noting, Kelly has also said she’s unsure if she’ll see Bombshell, and it’s reasonable to believe she’s ambivalent about the project. However, the idea that she’s feuding with Theron isn’t accurate. Gossip Cop also checked in with a source close to the situation, who tells us the tabloid’s article is made-up. The former Fox News anchor had nothing to do with the making of the film and had no expectations for a face-to-face with Theron during the production.
This isn’t the first time Gossip Cop has had to debunk a story surrounding the highly-anticipated movie. Earlier this year, we busted Star‘s sister publication, Life & Style, for falsely claiming Theron was being “difficult” in the set of Bombshell because she felt immense pressure to pull of her role as Kelly. That article, which was published several months after the movie had already wrapped shooting, was similarly bogus.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
