Meghan McCain confirmed her engagement to Ben Domenech on “The View” on Thursday. Watch the video below!

On Wednesday night, reports began circulating that McCain was secretly engaged and planning her wedding. None of the stories named the groom-to-be, but Domenech confirmed on Twitter that he is the co-host’s fiancé. Sharing one of the articles, he tweeted, “Love you bae. @MeghanMcCain.” A number of their mutual friends replied with expressions of excitement that the news was no longer secret.

And now on the ABC talk show, McCain spoke about the engagement for the first time. “All right now, Miss Meghan. What’s happening with you?” Whoopi Goldberg asked as the show began. She replied, “You may have read something about me on the internet last night. I am engaged.” McCain confessed that she was hoping to get married without anyone knowing she was engaged, but “people talk sometimes.”

Though she didn’t name Domenech, she insisted, “I love him very much, and I’m very happy.” She also revealed that he proposed at the Mayo Clinic when her cancer-stricken father was getting a scan. “We decided to sort of celebrate life and celebrate being alive. It’s not the most romantic story, but he is my partner,” she said. Though she was wearing her engagement ring, McCain insisted that she didn’t see this as an “achievement,” and encouraged women to “wait” for men who like “strong women.” She then said she’d like to stop talking about herself and talk politics instead.

McCain has previously mentioned on “The View” that she has a boyfriend. In fact, when her dad John McCain appeared last week to celebrate her birthday, he was actually asked if he approves of her beau. He jokingly called the then-unidentified man a “jerk,” and McCain herself admitted that he’s actually more conservative than they are. Indeed, Domench is the publisher of the right-leaning online magazine The Federalist and previously confounded the conservative blog Redstate.

McCain is now the show’s second panelist to announce an engagement this year. Back in June, Jedediah Bila announced on “The View” that she was engaged. Ironically, she ended up leaving the program a few months later and was replaced by McCain. Check out the new video with McCain’s engagement news below!
